Child Protection Week -
29th May to 5th June 🗓

Our part?
Children Feminism & Voice Open Seminar💡

In line with dedication to raising awareness about the rights, safety and well-being of children Student discussants and our two guest speakers Christina 'Tina' Nomdo - Inaugural Commissioner of Children, WC and Lucy Jamieson,Senior Researcher at the Children's Institute joined in a Conversational reading of "This Country Hates Our boys" as a text on childhoods through decolonial Child-centric lenses .

Here, discussion around vulnerability, emotional constructions of childhoods, and resisting the universalization of childhood experiences were some of the key focal points.

We were also called to rethink knowledge around children, called to recognize them as knowers☝🏼.

Their agency and dignity should be at the forefront when discussing matters around their safety, further highlighting the need for more child-centric approaches.

Thank you to all who formed part of this events' success.

Student voices highlighting some powerful insights from our 4 Corners event. What a way to fully encompss the bridging of gaps, where like mindedness and theory becomes praxis. This was our first inter-campus event and what came from it begs to be further explored. Thank you to each student, each organization and all around each voice that contributed to the first step into something truly inspiring!

We've been thinking and we miss you. We miss the way you critically engaged with African feminism within a variety of political contexts, and we miss how you interlinked your personal with your political. It's been too long and we've been too quiet. But right now, we're changing all of that. The African Gender Institute and the department of African Feminist Studies invite you to reconnect with us and with your peers, old and new, through our upcoming series of online engagements.

Details are in the invite. RSVP by registering through the links in our story highlights. Email [email protected] if you have any questions.
