10 years ago, I stood at Leo Marquard residence at UCT with nothing but a dream in my heart. Today, I’m living that dream. Today, we celebrated a 10-year journey — and on my way to the meet-up, I couldn’t hold back the tears. I thought to myself: We actually did it!!!
I had the privilege of mentoring these incredible souls, but what humbles me most is how much they have given back to me. One of them even introduced me to the company where I now work — and through that, my entire life changed for the better.
In 2014, as a first-year student, I looked around and thought: More people from where I come from deserve to be here too. I made a promise to myself that I would give everything I had to make that dream a reality. And today, looking back, my heart is overflowing with gratitude. I am forever thankful to every single person who became part of this journey. It was never just about my efforts — it was about a community, a family, all of us building this dream together.
Today, the organisation has grown beyond anything I could have imagined.
Among us are doctors, engineers, data engineers, teachers, nurses, physiotherapists, lawyers… and many more still rising.
This is more than just a milestone — it’s proof that dreams planted in faith, nurtured in love, and watered by sacrifice do come true.
