Learn Splitting Now!

We teach hobby beekeepers and small beekeeping operators how to make splits and expand their colony numbers using their existing colonies.

If you find queen cells in your hive, do not harm them until you know for sure why they are there. Ultimately, ALL queen cells are valuable and should be used to either sell, donate, make splits or replace an old queen.

Even though it's winter time now - Autumn is not far away.

Prepare now by getting the making splits kit:

spare catch boxes
internal feeder frames for each nuc
queen clips
queen cages
white sugar 500g per catch box
get a list of people who may need queens or
make a list of people that want to buy queen cells

There's only a short 7-9 day window when queen cells are sealed and capped before the virgin queen bees emerge in South Africa.

The bees may be slowing down for winter, but now is a good time to repair, replace, and prepare equipment for spring.

Feeding bees is not failure. Letting them starve is.

In tough seasons, dearth periods and deep winter in southern Africa we can experience sub zero temperatures for an extended time while bees are not able to forage nor leave the hive.

Feeding can be used to support colonies if they:
are weak
are new swarms
are new splits
are being propped during a dearth period
are being supported through the winter
Are being prepared for the spring to make brood eggs

BUT stop feeding whenever you believe there is a nectar flow and or when your colony reaches a stronger population.

Typically, feeding can be used for multiple reasons:

As stated above
to build up worker population
to help make splits
to help make stronger for spring and next nectar flow
to make strong for pollination

Winter doesn't kill bees. Neglect does. Either Your knowledge or preparation is lacking...
