The Department of Higher Education and Training will host the WorldSkills South Africa National Competition, Conference and Career Festival at the Chief Albert Luthuli International Convention Centre in Durban, KwaZulu-Natal Province, from 8–12 March 2026.

Addressing the day one of the WorldSkills South Africa Conference, DM Nomusa Dube-Ncube mention that "As the Department of Higher Education and Training, we continue to emphasise that artisan development is part of a wider ecosystem linked to industrial strategy, the green economy, and the 4IR revolution.

We are reminded of the urgency of this task by the persistent skills gap in our country. It is disheartening that the number of young people Not in Education, Employment or Training is still high in our country. And this skills gap is not confined to the youth.

Many adults are looking for new skills to advance in their current job or transition to a new career pathway"
