| Simphiwe "uMqwathi" Mnyande, elected SRC President in just his second year, earned the legendary title of the highest voted-for President in the history of Rhodes University.

When you rise as fast as Simphiwe did, there will always be sceptics. Reflecting on the journey and the noise along the way, he puts it bluntly:

"They didn't trust me. They doubted me. And I proved them wrong. I knew what I wanted to be and what I ought to be."

Arriving at Rhodes University in 2022, he didn't let the whispers slow him down. Instead, he channelled that absolute clarity of purpose into serving the student body from the ground up.

"I didn't join leadership or fight for students for the fame. I served the student body of Rhodes University to give back more than I sought to receive."
