Prof. James Chibueze shared an inspiring message from Takalani Nemaungani, Chief Director for Astronomy at South Africa's DSTI. Takalani's vision is that the Square Kilometre Array (SKA) will lead to three Nobel Prizes once it is fully operational. He challenged the attendees of the RAAP Workshop to ensure that one of those Nobel Prizes comes from this very group of researchers.

The Radio Astronomy Advancement Programme (RAAP) Workshop 2026 is officially underway at the Unisa Science Campus, bringing together students, researchers, astronomers, astrophysicists from across Africa and beyond. Hosted by the Unisa Centre for Astronomy and Space Studies (UCASS), the workshop has attracted participants from 12 countries: 🇿🇦 South Africa, 🇬🇭 Ghana, 🇧🇼 Botswana, 🇰🇪 Kenya, 🇳🇦 Namibia, 🇲🇿 Mozambique, 🇪🇹 Ethiopia, 🇲🇬 Madagascar, 🇿🇲 Zambia, 🇳🇬 Nigeria, 🇹🇿 Tanzania and 🇨🇳 China. The workshop is providing an important platform for knowledge exchange, collaboration and capacity building in radio astronomy, covering themes including Radio interferometry, Radio data reduction, African VLBI Network (AVN) and Pulsar science.
