Wits PhD candidate and NRF-sponsored Fulbright Visiting Student Researcher Bontle Masango is taking her work on type 2 diabetes β€” the most common form of diabetes in Africa β€” to the global stage as a 2025/2026 South African Fulbright Student at MIT and Harvard University.

Her research aims to reduce the burden of diabetes on individuals and healthcare systems, driving impact where it’s needed most.

For more than 70 years, Fulbright has supported South Africans like Bontle to pursue master’s and doctoral degrees at leading U.S. institutions β€” advancing research, building leaders, and strengthening partnerships between our countries.
