Empowering the community through digital skills! Today, University of Pretoria alumnus Paballo Mphake led an engaging workshop on Microsoft PowerPoint. Participants walked away with practical tips for creating clean, professional slide decks to elevate their personal and workplace projects.

Bridging classroom theory with community memory, members of the Historical Society joined UP’s Mamelodi Campus and the BSocSci (Honours) Heritage and Cultural Tourism students and lecturers for a tour of Mamelodi’s historic landmarks. Following the excursion, students will translate their fieldwork into StoryMaps, curating the history and lived experiences of selected sites into accessible, spatial digital archives.

Dr Nompumelelo Pricilla Madonda presented a session today examining culturally responsive pedagogy and emergent reading, focusing on the strategic integration of indigenous games as a foundation for early literacy. Her presentation highlighted how play-based indigenous knowledge systems can bridge home and classroom environments, fostering foundational language acquisition, phonemic awareness, and contextual learning in the Foundation Phase.
