Evangelical Seminary of Southern Africa ESSA is an institution of higher learning in Pietermaritzburg, South Africa.

Our Mission is to train dedicated Christian leaders, in an urban setting, for the Church-in-Mission by providing quality tertiary education that is Evangelical, Holistic and Contextual. Our aim is to equip men and women with the tools and attitudes needed to advance the Gospel of Jesus Christ in church, ministry and life. We are multi-racial, multi-denominational, non-sexist, contextual and academically credible at the tertiary level.

On Saturday, during our graduation in the old Luther chapel, the new ESSA Lectern was revealed. Carved by sculptor Gert Swart, this piece is designed to echo the ESSA Cross, also carved by Swart and unveiled 25 years ago on the day of 9/11.
