What would a circular economy look like in Africa?

As communities around the world grapple with climate change, resource scarcity, waste, and growing demands for food, water, energy, and jobs, the need for new approaches to sustainable development has never been greater.

From 8–11 June 2026, Nelson Mandela University will host the Australia–Africa Universities Network (AAUN) Africa Forum, bringing together researchers, policymakers, industry leaders, and emerging scholars to explore how circular economy thinking can help build more inclusive and sustainable futures.

The conversation goes far beyond recycling. It is about reimagining how we design, produce, consume, and create value in ways that benefit both people and the planet. We look forward to welcoming delegates from across Africa and Australia to Gqeberha for four days of dialogue, collaboration, and innovation.
