🎓✨ The School of Information Technology proudly celebrates another remarkable doctoral achievement!

Congratulations to Dr Gerald Tsimba on earning his Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) in Information Technology. His thesis, “Towards a Digital Citizenship Maturity Model for School Learners in Zimbabwe,” addresses the growing importance of digital awareness and responsible technology use in today’s education landscape.

His research responds to the rapid rise in digital device usage and the associated increase in cyber-related risks among school learners. By developing a Digital Citizenship Maturity Model, Dr Tsimba provides a structured approach to enhancing digital awareness and promoting responsible online behaviour among learners, educators, parents, and schools.

Grounded in critical realist philosophy, his study offers valuable insights into how digital citizenship can be strengthened within developing contexts, contributing meaningfully to safer and more informed digital learning environments.

This significant achievement was completed under the guidance of Prof K. Thomson, with co-supervision by Prof L.A. Futcher, whose mentorship supported the successful development of this impactful research.

Dr Tsimba’s accomplishment reflects dedication, academic excellence, and a commitment to shaping responsible digital futures in education.

We are incredibly proud to celebrate this milestone and the important contribution his work makes to both academia and society.
