When some of the world's leading media scholars, journalists and communication experts gathered in Africa to rethink the future of media in the digital age, history was made at North-West University.
At a historic first, the NWU hosted the regional International Association for Media and Communication Research (IAMCR) conference on African soil at the Potchefstroom Campus.
Under the theme, "Reimagining Media and Political Communication in Africa: Voices, Power and Participation in the Digital Age," delegates from across the globe explored some of the most pressing challenges shaping society today, including the impact of artificial intelligence on elections, misinformation, and the evolving role of community radio.
The conference featured keynote addresses by Dr Lungile Binza, Chief Operations Officer of the SABC, and Prof Robert B. Horwitz from UC San Diego. NWU leadership also highlighted the importance of African perspectives in shaping global conversations on media, communication and democracy.
A landmark moment for African scholarship. A powerful platform for global dialogue.
