SNARE REMOVAL WEEKEND 🦏🦓

And we’re backkk! The Wildlife Group is starting 2023 off with a bang 💥 with our first event coming up already!

Roodeplaat Nature Reserve has invited us back to remove snares from their beautiful reserve over the weekend of the 4-5 February 2023. We will be doing a proper hike and screening again, as removing snares is an ongoing battle for our wildlife!

The reserve is home to giraffe, kudu, impala, zebra, etc. and should we spot any animal with a snare, it will be darted and removed as well.

You are welcome to come for the day on Saturday or Sunday, or join for both and stay over on Saturday night, when we will be enjoying a lekker braai 😎🥩🍻. There are camping and basic accommodation options available.

If you are interested in joining this experience, please join the WhatsApp group to find out more details!

Don’t miss out on this incredible opportunity to escape and spend some time outdoors in a stunning African reserve, while doing our part to help combat the snaring of our precious wildlife 🫶

What does wildlife conservation mean to you and what do you look forward to in your term?:

For me wildlife conservation is to look after our wild animals and the most effective way to achieve this is by involving and educating as many people as possible. For this reason I can not wait to reach out and invite as many community members as possible to contribute to our journey the 2023 term.

What does wildlife conservation mean to you and what do you look forward to in your term?:

Wildlife conservation to me is about the protection and preservation of our wildlife as well as the natural habitats that these precious animals live in. I believe there is no better way to preserve and protect than by educating.

I’m extremely excited for what this term has in store! The com has over the years done an amazing job at educating on conservation as well as providing a platform for students to have access to the industry, and to make a valuable difference in the efforts towards wildlife conservation. I can’t wait to play my part in making the magic happen 🪄

Wildlife conservation to me is not only protecting the wonderful wonders of our planet but also the sustainable use of wildlife so that the generations after us can also experience and see the beauty of the creation of God like me.

In my term I am really looking forward to having the opportunity to be part of a group who’s main goal is to conserve wildlife and to play a role in helping to achieve this goal.

What does wildlife conservation mean to you and what do you look forward to in your term?:

Wildlife conservation to me means One health. There is no successful conservation without applying the concept of one health. If we want to successfully conserve our wildlife we need to make sure that we look after our environment and encourage other people to do so as well. In doing so, we will have a situation where people, animals and the environment co-exist in a healthy relationship.🐃

What does wildlife conservation mean to you and what do you look forward to in your term?

My passion for wildlife conservation has been a major driver in life, propelling me across the world in search of ways to contribute to the field. I look forward to sharing this passion with others this year, hoping to inspire and be inspired by the wonderful people I am bound to meet.

Definitely sushi! 🍣🍱

What does wildlife conservation mean to you and what do you look forward to in your term?

Conservation to me is about every part of nature, its how interconnected everything is and how everything influences each other and so by conserving even the smallest animal/plant/insect you are indirectly conserving so much more.
I am looking forward to creating new opportunities and hoping to expose more people to nature and wildlife and get people just as excited and passionate about nature and conservation as I am.🍃

Sushi, duh! 🍣

What does wildlife conservation mean to you and what do you look forward to in your term?:

Conservation has to include the preservation of all species, big or small, for the future biodiversity of our planet, with particular focus on protecting endangered species, however conservation is not only about protecting wildlife, it’s so much more than that! Until we get people to understand the direct role they play in conservation, we are not making any changes. Conservation must involve an aspect of education and also relies on respect for the environment.
This term, I look forward to making a whole lot of memories with our fantastic new com and awesome members. We already have quite a few events in the pipeline for the upcoming year, some annual events and some totally new. Lastly, I’m most looking forward to the experience and knowledge I’m going to gain from being on the committee this year. Serving this committee is the perfect opportunity to branch out and broaden my knowledge… and I’ve got so much left to learn!

If you could eat one food for the rest of your life what would it be?:

Tacos! 🌮 that counts as an item, right 🤪Crunchy, spicy and delicious, how could you get bored of that?! Oh and did I mention guacamole 🥑🤤

What does wildlife conservation mean to you and what do you look forward to in your term?:

Wildlife conservation is very close to my heart as it combines two of my favourite passions, wildlife and being outdoors, as well as teaching others and sharing values about conservation and the impact that we can hopefully have on not only our future but many others after us. It’s so important for us all to play our part and bring awareness to the fact that we can’t do it alone, and let’s face it, it’s so much better doing it together anyway 😉.

For my upcoming term as chairperson of the wildlife committee, I am looking forward to making people froth for wildlife as much as I froth for tacos 😍. I hope to inspire as many people as possible to pursue their dreams in wildlife through as many opportunities as possible, as well as bring an awareness to conservation and how it all comes together. I am so proud to be a part of the wildlife committee and I’m so excited for what we will accomplish this year ahead 🤩
