Hey TUTzens!

🎥 In Video: Highlights from the Government Communication and Information System (GCIS) 2026 Roundtable Discussion on Youth Participation in Governance Processes, held in partnership with Higher Health on 19 August 2026 at Tshedimosetso House, Hatfield.

Ms Mudzunga Nkateko, a second-year Industrial Engineering student and Peer Educator from Tshwane University of Technology TUT, Pretoria Campus, represented the Directorate of Health and Wellness during the engagement.

In her contribution and feedback from the group discussions, Ms Nkateko emphasised the importance of inclusive democratic participation, particularly for women and persons with disabilities.

She highlighted the need to:
🔹 Protect and uphold the right to dignity for everyone.
🔹 Ensure women and persons with disabilities are meaningfully represented in decision-making processes.
🔹 Address physical, social and communication barriers that prevent inclusive participation.
🔹 Promote accessible information, including sign-language interpretation, Braille and multilingual communication.
🔹 Challenge stereotypes, patriarchy and social attitudes that continue to exclude women and persons with disabilities.
🔹 Encourage young people to move beyond simply raising concerns and become active citizens who participate, advocate and vote.

The message was clear: democracy is not only about having rights it is about actively participating in protecting and advancing those rights.

As young people, our voices matter. Our participation matters. Our choices shape the future.

Freedom and democracy are in our hands. If we don’t fight for them, who will?

Hey TUTzens

Progress rarely begins with everyone agreeing.
Sometimes, we need to question what exists. Challenge convention. Shift perspectives. Make people stop and think. Inspire change.

ARTIVISM 2026 is a space for brave ideas, critical conversations and creative action.

Are you ready to disrupt the conversation?
