An event can have a great programme, beautiful décor and an impressive line-up, but a good MC is often the one who brings it all together. They add the spice, the flavour and, sometimes, the unexpected laughs that make an event memorable.

Some people even have their favourite MCs because they already know what to expect: good energy, a few laughs and a programme that keeps moving.

For many of our FEBE events, Godfrey Motaung, Departmental Administrator in the Department of Architecture and Industrial Design, has become one of those familiar faces. He has hosted numerous Faculty events, keeping audiences entertained and bringing his own personality to the stage.

At the FEBE Faculty Academic Excellence Awards on 28 August, Godfrey took to the stage alongside Prathiska Rambally, a Lecturer in the Department of Geomatics. Together, they hosted the evening with warmth and grace, keeping the programme flowing while giving us plenty of moments to smile and laugh.

Thank you, Godfrey and Prathiska, for bringing your energy to the stage and helping make the evening one to remember 🥳✨🤏🏼

A familiar FEBE face at Electra Mining Africa!

We bumped into three of our FEBE alumni and students exploring the latest in engineering technology at the expo.

Rejoice Mapula, a recent Bachelor of Engineering Technology Honours graduate from the Department of Industrial Engineering, was joined by Metallurgical Engineering Master’s students Lindokuhle Ntanzi and Doretha Mafane.

Today was an exciting day as we celebrated the hard work and creativity of our 4th Year Architecture Technology students.

The Department of Architecture and Industrial Design officially handed over the WikiHouse to the Faculty of Engineering and the Built Environment. Designed and built by the students, the structure is a great example of taking an idea from the classroom and turning it into something real. It can be used as a coffee station, kiosk or a space for different activities.

And if you’re around campus, you’ll find the WikiHouse by Building 13.

The project has already taken TUT beyond our campus, featuring in Prof Amira Osman’s presentation on innovative building technologies at the World Urban Forum (WUF13) in Baku, the capital of Azerbaijan.
A proud moment for our students and a great example of making with purpose.

Earlier today, Zintle Ntlokwana from the Directorate of Research and Innovation introduced postgraduate students to the Clarivate Converis System and showed them how it can support their research journey.

The system brings important research information together in one place, including research projects, publications, funding and other research activities. Students were also shown how it helps make it easier to keep track of their research information and activities.







Earlier today, Zintle Ntlokwana from the Directorate of Research and Innovation introduced postgraduate students to the Clarivate Converis System and showed them how it can support their research journey.

The system brings important research information together in one place, including research projects, publications, funding and other research activities. Students were also shown how it helps make it easier to keep track of their research information and activities.







Wally Langa, Assistant Registrar in the Office of the Registrar: Enrolment Management and Planning, reminded postgraduate students to make sure they are properly registered before engaging with their supervisors.

He encouraged students to take their studies seriously, meet the deadlines agreed on with their supervisors and keep the lines of communication open. If they run into challenges, they should communicate rather than go silent. Staying in touch, he said, helps build trust and maintain a good relationship with their supervisors.

Research ethics was also on the programme, with Prof Jan Swanepoel, a member of the Human Research Ethics Committee (HREC), taking postgraduate students through the HREC process and why it matters.

He reminded students that research involves real people, information and data, and that these must be handled with care. From protecting participants’ privacy to collecting and storing information responsibly, students were encouraged to think about ethics from the very beginning of their research.

Still at the Postgraduate Orientation Day for the Faculty of Engineering and the Built Environment, Prof Thomas Olwal, Assistant Dean: Postgraduate Studies, Research & Innovation, took students through Tshwane University of Technology’s postgraduate policy, including the requirements, procedures and support available to them.

He reminded students that while the University has an obligation to support and guide them, they also have a responsibility to play their part and stay on track with their studies.

With Master’s studies expected to be completed within one to three years and Doctoral studies within two to five years, students were encouraged to use their time wisely, manage their work and avoid leaving everything until the last minute.

We are attending the Postgraduate Orientation Day for the Faculty of Engineering and the Built Environment, welcoming new and continuing Master’s and Doctoral students.

Standing in for Executive Dean Prof Mxolisi Shongwe, Dr Isaac Tlhabadira, Assistant Dean: Special Projects, WIL and Community Engagements, welcomed students and encouraged them to make the most of their postgraduate journey.

His message was simple: build connections, stay curious, ask questions and look after yourself along the way. Postgraduate studies can be challenging, but students are not on this journey alone. Supervisors, peers and the university’s support services are there to help.
