From Johannesburg to the global stage, this week, we're hosting a conversation with Dickson Adu-Agyei, architect, filmmaker, and storyteller reshaping how we think about space.

Dickson is the Creative Director of Base Beacon Studios and founder of Adu-Agyei Architecture Studio. A Ghanaian-born, South African-registered architect, his practice sits at the intersection of architecture, memory, place, and African spatial knowledge; proof that the built environment is as much about narrative as it is about structure.

Beyond the studio, Dickson's filmmaking extends his architectural thinking into moving image, with works like Dream Call and Osoro ne Asaase exploring memory and place through film. He also spent six years teaching at the University of Johannesburg Graduate School of Architecture, co-leading a postgraduate unit on the intersections of film and architecture.

This is exactly the kind of Thought Leadership we love bringing into our studio spaces: bold, boundary-crossing, and deeply African in its lens.

🏠 The WikiHouse has a new home.

Today we hand over over the WikiHouse to the Faculty of Engineering and the Built Environment. Designed, modelled, and made by our 4th Year Architecture students, this timber structure is a living example of our mΒ² ethos: Model and Make, in service of real, buildable solutions.

It's more than a handover; it's proof of what happens when students are trusted to build at full scale. This build has already carried our name onto the international stage, featured in Prof Amira Osman's presentation on innovative building technologies at the World Urban Forum (WUF13) in Baku.

Come see where South African craftsmanship meets cutting-edge digital fabrication: one panel, one joint, one make at a time.

Deeper skill. Sharper practice. The next step after the Diploma.

The Advanced Diploma in Industrial Design builds on your foundation with greater technical depth and industry-ready specialisation, refining the skills that turn ideas into manufacturable, market-ready products.

Today's The Day!!

From the rural landscapes of Manguzi to the studios of OPLUS WORKS: Menzi Ndlovu is redefining African luxury through architecture, indigenous knowledge and artificial intelligence.

A Wits-trained architect, Menzi is the Principal Architect and Founder of OPLUS WORKS, an architecture and African design research studio grounded in what he calls the "Three Universes" β€” Past, Future and Now. He was part of Noga Mo Jozi, South Africa's first AI-based architecture exhibition, and now lectures in the Department of Architecture at the University of Johannesburg, guiding the next generation through the same questions his own upbringing raised: how do we design across the divide between rural and urban, tradition and technology?

Join us as he unpacks how AI is helping architects write new African spatial narratives.

Research meets practice. That's the M.Arch.

For graduates ready to go beyond the studio brief, our Master's in Architecture is where dissertation work and critical thinking take shape, tackling housing, sustainability and the future of our cities. It's the next step for those ready to lead the conversation, not just join it.

(Design Γ— Develop) + (Model Γ— Make).
That's our equation for success.

We're a close-knit family of architects, designers and makers, working in the interstitial space between traditional South African craftsmanship and cutting-edge digital manufacturing.

We don't just design for aesthetics, we make to solve African challenges. Our studio doors are always open.

From CAD to clay. From sketch to shelf. That's industrial design.

Can you think creatively and logically?
Solve practical problems?
See your sketches as finished products you can hold and use?

If you're nodding yes, this might be exactly where you belong, shaping the products people use every day, from concept to manufacture.

Congratulations to our our 4th-year Architecture students on their participation in BIM Harambee 2026, hosted by BIM Community Africa at the University of Pretoria.

The event's focus was on relevant skills, responsive culture, and intelligent information, reflecting exactly where the built environment industry is heading: toward BIM as an information management discipline, not just a software skillset. Exposure like this, ahead of entering practice, is a key part of how we prepare our students for the profession.

School Talk Series #006 happening TODAY πŸŽ™οΈ

Ruan Erasmus (BArch Cum Laude, TUT) is Co-Founder and Design Lead at Allof Architecture, a design studio, media platform, and content community reaching over a million followers across its design-focused pages.

His talk, "Wevisit with AOA," looks at the small world of architecture and the people who shape it. Beyond the starchitects, it's the locals who build the culture and Ruan will unpack how AOA grew from a media platform into a full atelier.
