Together with our lecturer, Anneli Groenewald from the Department of Journalism and Associate Professor Marcelyn Oostendorp from the Department of General Linguistics, in co-operation with Prof Kopane Ratele from the Department of Psychology, the โSense of Homeโ workshop was facilitated, exploring how belonging is experienced in everyday life.
Dr Anell Daries guided a walking tour through an area of Stellenbosch, pointing out key sites on campus that hold historical and symbolic significance. The walk prompted reflection on how place, memory, and experience shape what it means to feel at home, or not, in a space.
The session highlighted that a sense of home is fluid, shaped through relationships, language, and lived encounters, often carrying both comfort and tension.
