The Writing Lab offers free face-to-face consultations for postgraduate students every Tuesday and Thursday from 14:00–16:00 in the SU Library Research Commons.
These consultations provide a friendly, relaxed space to discuss your writing at any stage of the process. Writing consultants can assist with planning, structuring, referencing, and developing your academic voice, helping you build confidence in your writing.
Bookings can be made through the Writing Lab booking system using your SU credentials.

The Mandela Rhodes Scholarship

The Mandela Rhodes Scholarship offers comprehensive funding for the core costs associated with your studies. It covers tuition for a one-year Honours degree or a two-year Master's degree in any field at a recognised South African institution of Higher Education.
Eligibility: Open to African citizens aged 19-29 pursuing honours or Master’s degrees in any field.

A 3-year Postdoctoral Research Fellowship is available at the Institute for Economic Justice in Johannesburg, offering a R600 000 non-taxable annual stipend plus covered research and travel costs.

The fellowship forms part of an international Oxford-led project on biosecurity and food systems. Candidates with a PhD in the social sciences and experience in fieldwork are encouraged to apply.

C4IP Research Grant Opportunity

The Council for Innovation Promotion is offering grants of up to $25,000 to support original, data-driven research on intellectual property (IP) policy.

This grant is designed to fund empirical research projects that generate evidence to inform real-world IP policy debates. Successful applicants will produce a final written research output (e.g. a journal article or report), with funding awarded to support the research process (excluding overhead costs).

The SU Library and Information Services' sessions support you in navigating various aspects of the research process.

In March, you can look forward to sessions on formatting your thesis in MS Word, conducting systematic and scoping reviews (including specialised sessions for Medicine and Health Sciences), finding and working with government statistics, principles of data visualisation, copyright in theses and dissertations, research data management and data management plans, as well as tools and applications such as SunDMP. A library induction session is also available to help you make the most of key databases and resources.

Postdoctoral Fellowship or PhD Position at the South African Grape and Wine Research Institute (SAGWRI)

SAGWRI is seeking a skilled, enthusiastic, and self-driven postdoctoral fellow or PhD candidate to join an integrated research project focused on grapevine water management and water-stress monitoring.

The successful candidate will contribute to the development and testing of a low-cost smart irrigation system aimed at improving water management in vineyards. The project aims to improve water sustainability and competitiveness in South Africa’s grape and wine sector.
