The RE1 examination exists for a reason.
A Key Individual is not simply a senior employee. In terms of the FAIS Act, a Key Individual is accountable for the management and oversight of the financial services activities of an FSP, and that responsibility is significant.
What the role actually demands:
Governance: Ensuring the FSP operates within the FAIS regulatory framework, not just when it is convenient, but consistently.
Accountability: Owning the FSP's compliance function, understanding its obligations and ensuring those obligations are met.
Client Protection: Ensuring that advice given by representatives is appropriate, compliant and genuinely in the client's best interest.
Leadership: Developing representatives, managing performance and taking the necessary steps, including debarment, when standards are not met.
The RE1 examination assesses whether a candidate truly understands what this role requires. Passing it is not the finish line, it is the beginning.
MBSE's RE1 Training Programme prepares you for the examination and for the responsibility that follows.
