💦 One final challenge. One powerful message of solidarity. ✊🏼✊🏽✊🏾
To wrap up the Dunk-the-Prim challenge in support of the initiative, the Stellenbosch University Prim Committee decided there was one more person who needed to be dunked – the Dean of Students, Dr Leslie van Rooi! And he accepted the challenge in true Matie spirit. 🙌
The Dunk-the-Prim challenge started at SU’s oldest women’s residence, Harmonie Ladies Residence, during the campaign (5 March – 15 April 2026) to raise awareness and support for students experiencing food insecurity. The initiative brought together students, staff, and alumni in support of – helping ensure that no Matie goes hungry.
Student hunger remains a serious challenge across South African universities, affecting students’ wellbeing, concentration, mental health, and academic success. Through the collective efforts of the SU community, non-perishable food items were donated and funds were raised to support students in need. ❤️
The Dean of Students used the moment not only to recognise the incredible efforts of student leaders and the wider SU community, but also to encourage students heading into the exam season:
🗣️ “The examination season often brings long hours, added pressure, and personal sacrifice. Yet it is also a season that reminds us of your resilience, discipline, and determination. As you continue preparing, please remember that your wellbeing matters too. Rest when you can, support one another, ask for help where needed, and remain kind to yourselves during difficult days. Success is not only measured in marks, but also in perseverance, growth, and the courage to continue showing up even when things feel difficult. You are part of a community that believes deeply in your potential and your future.”
