Applications are open for Professional Administrative Support Staff (PASS) at Stellenbosch University (SU) to apply for the 2026/2027 cycle of the LU-SU Blended PASS Development Programme.

The programme is a dedicated bilateral mobility programme between SU and Lund University (LU), Sweden, designed to support the professional development and continuing education of PASS staff.

The programme offers a blended learning experience, combining virtual sessions with in-person engagement, and provides participants with the opportunity to develop new skills, gain international exposure, and interact meaningfully with peers from both institutions.

From 7 - 11 September 2026 Stellenbosch University (SU) welcomes over 30 international Professional Administrative Support Staff (PASS) to campus for the second instalment of the 2026 International Staff Training Week.

Convening under the overarching theme, "Strengthening Internationalisation Practice in a Data-Informed and AI-Supported University," this edition builds upon the conversations initiated during the Staff Training Week held earlier this year in April.

This week, delegates from partner institutions across Austria, Germany, Greece, Kenya, Latvia, Norway, Portugal, Slovenia, Spain and Zimbabwe gather in Stellenbosch alongside PASS colleagues from the University of the Free State, and SU.

Over the course of the week, participants will engage in dynamic sessions bridging technology and internationalisation practice:

- Intercultural Competence: Participating in UNESCO Story Circles to analyze how intercultural engagement adapts within AI-mediated and digital professional environments.

- Data & AI Foundations: Addressing the strategic implementation of Big Data and AI within university infrastructure, prioritizing ethical oversight and policy integration.

- Practical Application: Engaging in hands-on technical workshops designed to apply AI capabilities toward administrative precision and process optimization.

- Contextual Learning: Observing institutional operations in real time through targeted job-shadowing placements across SU faculties and divisions.

Applications are now open for undergraduate, masterโ€™s, and PhD students at SU who wish to spend the first semester of 2027 studying abroad through the Erasmus+ Programme.

Successful applicants will receive a once-off travel grant and housing and living support valued. Tuition will be waived by the selected partner institution. To be eligible, applicants must be registered full-time SU students, have completed at least one academic year, and maintain a minimum weighted average of 65%.

SU postgraduate students are invited to apply for the 2027 France-South Africa Scholarship Programme, offering fully funded opportunities to pursue a Master's or PhD at selected Higher Education Institutions in France.

This fully-funded programme supports all fields of study and includes a tailored pre-departure programme from February to July 2027 with online French language classes and potential internships with French companies in South Africa.

Meet Fiammetta Remotti, an international exchange student who made the leap from Italy to Stellenbosch University (SU) for her semester abroad. In her story, she reflects on her academic journey, building global connections, and experiencing life at SU.

"I donโ€™t think I will ever be able to erase from my mind the warm light that surrounded the mountains along the road on the morning I arrived in South Africa. I landed in Cape Town at around six oโ€™clock in the morning, just as the sun was beginning to light up the landscape and slowly outline the mountains and around me. It was precisely at that moment, gazing at the view through the window, that I realized I was truly on the other side of the world, in a place that would become my home for the next five months. Even before stepping onto the campus, I felt immediately and warmly welcomed by Stellenbosch University."

SU students can gain international academic experience without leaving home through the Tรœ-VIP (Tรผbingen Virtual Intercultural Program) offered by the University of Tรผbingen in Germany.

This tuition-free, 10-week online initiative allows participants to enroll in interactive, real-time courses covering topics such as sustainability, politics, human rights, intercultural communication, and language studies (including German). Running across two main intakes each year, February to April and October to December, the programme features an integrated online buddy system to foster global connections and earns transferable ECTS credits.
