Stellenbosch University congratulates Prof Tulio de Oliveira, Prof Jonathan Jansen, Prof Bert Klumperman and Prof Frank Tanser, on their latest recognition by the The National Research Foundation of South Africa (NRF), celebrating excellence and impact across diverse fields of research.
Prof Tulio de Oliveira received the NRF Societal Impact Award for his genomics research, including work that identified the Beta and Omicron variants and contributed to South Africa and the global response to COVID-19.
Prof Jonathan Jansen received the NRF Lifetime Achievement Award for his extraordinary contribution to the advancement of science in and for South Africa. His influential work in curriculum theory has shaped thinking around education, access and institutional culture.
Prof Bert Klumperman received his fourth consecutive NRF A-rating, recognising sustained research excellence in polymer chemistry, including work exploring applications in drug discovery and contraceptive development.
Prof Frank Tanser, NRF Societal Impact Award (Finalist), recognising his contributions to HIV epidemiology, population health and data-driven research.
