Goldfields TVET College – Tosa Campus Takes Maths & Science to Lenakeng!
On the 9th September 2026 Goldfields TVET College – Tosa Campus was at Lenakeng Technical Secondary School in Thabong, engaging with the Grade 11 learners who are taking Mathematics and Science.
We were excited to see the Grade 11 learners in full attendance, showing their commitment to strengthening their knowledge and skills in these important subjects.
The Maths & Science Week programme continues until next week, giving learners an opportunity to engage, learn and prepare for their academic journey ahead.

On 10 September 2026, Goldfields TVET College – Tosa Campus visited Kutloanong Secondary School in Odendaalsrus, engaging with Grade 9, 10 and 11 learners as part of the Maths & Science Week Programme.
The engagement provided learners with an opportunity to strengthen their understanding of Mathematics and Science, while also introducing them to the exciting occupational programmes offered at Goldfields TVET College.
Learners were encouraged to explore different study and career pathways, understand the importance of skills development, and consider how occupational programmes can equip them with practical, industry-relevant skills for the world of work.

Goldfields Tvet in collaboration with Destea participated in the Coastal and Inland Waterways Tourism Investment Summit taking place at Gariep Forever Resort, Gariep Dam from the 09-10 September 2026. The summit is a partnership between the National Department of Tourism and the Africa Coastal, Marine and Maritime Tourism Alliance.

The purpose of the summit is to bring together stakeholders to explore investment opportunities, partnerships and the potential of coastal, marine and inland waterways tourism.

Deputy Minister Maggie Sotyu and MEC Ketso Makume agreed that this programme brings government, communities, tourism businesses,academic institutions, investors and development partners together to unlock the economic potential of coastal and inland water resources.

All the discussions happened under the theme: "Unlocking Investment, Innovation and Sustainable Growth in Coastal, Marine and Inland Waterways Tourism.” This summit was part of WIL, where students carried different roles as per their given schedules. [LEJWELEPUTSWA DISTRICT & WELKOM SAPS ENGAGES GOLDFIELDS TVET COLLEGE (WELKOM CAMPUS) ON SUBSTANCE ABUSE AND GBVF AWARENESS]

On Wednesday, 09 September 2026, SAPS Lejweleputswa District and Welkom SAPS visited Goldfields TVET College, Welkom Campus, to engage students on Substance Abuse and Gender-Based Violence and Femicide (GBVF), while strengthening collaborative safety initiatives within the campus community.

The engagement brought together approximately 90 students, stakeholders, SANCA, the Department of Social Development and Safer South Africa.

The programme created an opportunity to raise awareness on substance abuse and , encourage open dialogue, and promote collaborative approaches towards preventing crime and violence and creating a safer learning environment.

Sgt Majoala Malindi, Lejweleputswa District Youth Crime Prevention Coordinator, addressed students on substance abuse and GBVF, with particular emphasis on the role of young people, law enforcement, educational institutions and communities in preventing violence, making responsible choices and promoting safer spaces.

The engagement also served as a pre-launch of the Campus Forum (CCSF), an initiative aimed at strengthening cooperation between SAPS, College management, students and relevant stakeholders in addressing safety challenges affecting the campus community. The CCSF is envisaged as a platform for identifying safety concerns, coordinating interventions, sharing information, and encouraging active student participation in crime prevention initiatives.

The programme was supported by Welkom SAPS members, Sgt Ramohlokoane, Community Policing Official, and Cst Radebe, Youth Crime Prevention Coordinator and Liaison Officer to Goldfields TVET College, who contributed to the engagement and discussions with students.

Student participation on the subject matter formed part of the programme, providing students with an opportunity to engage SAPS representatives on practical safety concerns affecting the campus and surrounding community. The discussion focused on strengthening communication between students and SAPS, reporting incidents, preventing crime, and building a culture of safety and responsibility.

The participation of SANCA, the Department of Social Development, and Safer South Africa further strengthened the multi-stakeholder approach, particularly in addressing substance abuse, providing support services, and promoting preventative interventions among young people.

SAPS remains committed to preventing substance abuse and GBVF, strengthening partnerships and creating safer communities and learning environments.

🚫 Choose Life. Choose Your Future.

Day 2 of the Student Representative Council (SRC) and Student Support Services, Substance Abuse Awareness Campaign at Tosa Campus was another impactful day of education, awareness, and meaningful conversations.

In partnership with SAPS Welkom, Department of Social Development, and SANCA, we continue to empower students with knowledge about the dangers of substance abuse, the importance of making positive choices, and the support available to those who may be struggling.

Together, we are building a safer, healthier, and substance-free campus community. 💙

THE COLLEGE’S STRATEGIC PLANNING TOWARDS 2030 Free State Department of Public Works and InfrastructureLejweleputswa District Municipality

From 07–09 September 2026, Goldfields TVET College Council, Senior Management and the Student Representative Council (SRC) came together at the Skills & Innovation Campus for a three-day Strategic Planning and Annual Performance Planning Session.

Held under the theme “Repositioning Goldfields TVET College to Meet the Demands of the 21st Century,” the session provided an important platform for reflection, strategic engagement and forward planning as the College strengthens its journey towards 2030.

The session was officially opened by the Council Chairperson, Mr Chabana Chabana, and the College Principal, Mr Francis Mahlangu, who emphasised the importance of collective leadership, institutional sustainability, performance and positioning the College for a rapidly changing education, economic and skills-development environment.

The College was also honoured by the presence of the Free State MEC for Public Works and Infrastructure, Ms Dibolelo Mance, who called on the College to ensure that its programmes respond to the skills demands of today’s economy and create meaningful opportunities for young people to become active contributors to the economy of the Free State.

The session further welcomed strategic stakeholders, including representatives from the Lejweleputswa District Municipality and the TVET Colleges Governors Council, who shared valuable insights and reaffirmed their commitment to supporting the College in achieving its strategic objectives.

Key areas of focus included human capital development, digital transformation and ICT, infrastructure planning, change management, stakeholder engagement, occupational and skills programmes, revenue collection, third-stream income, audit action plans, and the effective implementation of partnerships and MOUs.

The discussions reinforced that repositioning Goldfields TVET College requires a collective commitment to innovation, institutional readiness, strong partnerships and responsive skills development.

As the College looks towards 2030, the focus remains clear: to build a responsive, sustainable and future-ready institution that meets the needs of students, industry, communities and the broader economy.

Today, Welkom Campus Student Representative Council and Student Support Services hosted a powerful Substance Abuse Awareness session, and the message was clear: know the risks, make better choices, and look out for one another.

A massive thank you to all stakeholders : Safer South Africa, Goldfields SANCA, Department of Social Development, Welkom SAPS , who took time out to share their knowledge and real-life experiences with us. Your words truly hit home. Special appreciation to the SAPC team for coming through and equipping us with the facts we need to stay safe and informed.
