5 DANGERS OF PLAYING AROUND AS THE YOUTH
1) DIMINISHED POTENTIAL.
Every behavior as young people has consequences. When in our 20's and early 30's we choose to go after fleeting pleasures such as premarital s*x, alcohol, clubbing, sleepovers, betting, and neglect spiritual growth, school, and skills development, one day we will wake up and realize we are no longer youths but old people, full of regrets, pain, and nothing good to point at or be proud of.
2) BAD REPUTATION.
When we choose to follow worldly pleasures or our behavior becomes contrary to moral standards of living, it can build a bad name among those who know us.
One sad thing about a bad reputation is that it is very hard to fix, and it can lead to miss a lot of good opportunities because people they don't trust others who lack integrity in their lives.
3) SEVERE LIFE CHANGING CONSEQUENCES.
Playing around in our youth can bring negative, regrettable results such as s*xually transmitted diseases, legal issues, and even premature death. What can look to be very fun today can lead to regret tomorrow.
4) WEAK SPIRITUAL LIFE.
Playing around, engaging in all forms of fleeting pleasures in the prime of our life can bring instant gratification but at the same time pull us away from God.
The things of the world make the heart hard to the things of God, such that even when one grows old, it becomes very difficult to come to God.
5) PAINFUL FUTURE REGRETS.
When we grow old and look back, and see the wasted years in pursuing fleeting pleasures while other people of our age are enjoying life because of wise decisions in their youth, the question can always pops up: "How I wish I had used the prime of my life wisely; I wouldn't be in this pain and suffering." Sadly, no matter how someone may wish, nothing changes.
Proverbs 5:11-12:
"At the end of your life you will groan, when your flesh and body are spent. You will say, 'How I hated discipline! How my heart spurned correction!'"
Dear youth, while we are still in our prime, let's strive to spend our time with the future in mind by Investing in:
a) Spiritual growth.
b) Character development.
c) Education and skills development.
d) God honoring relationships.
It will help us to build futures with few or no regrets.
Proverbs 19:20:
"Listen to advice and accept discipline, and at the end you will be counted among the wise."
Proverbs 3:13, 16-17:
"Blessed are those who find wisdom, those who gain understanding.
Long life is in her right hand; in her left hand are riches and honor. Her ways are pleasant ways, and all her paths are peace."
