EDEN UNIVERSITY MEDICAL GRADUATES RECORD 100% PASS RATE IN MALAWI LICENSURE EXAMS

Lusaka, Friday, April 11, 2025 — Medical students from Eden University in Zambia have posted a 100% pass rate in Malawi’s recent pre-internship (licensure) examinations, according to results released by the Medical Council of Malawi.

The exams, held on March 13 and 14, 2025, are a mandatory requirement for medical graduates intending to begin their internships and professional practice in Malawi. The candidates from Eden University’s Bachelor of Medicine and Bachelor of Surgery (MBChB) programme were sitting for the exams for the first time.

The cohort successfully passed both the theoretical and practical components of the exam on their first attempt, a performance that places Eden University among institutions producing graduates ready for regional medical practice.

“This performance reflects the effort and preparedness of our students, and the training environment we have built,” said Dr. Nchimunya Machila, Dean of the School of Medicine at Eden University.

The students are expected to graduate later this year and proceed to their internship placements within the region. Their results contribute to Eden University’s growing visibility in the health education sector beyond Zambia.

The School of Medicine at Eden University has in recent years expanded its curriculum and strengthened its clinical training to align with both national and international standards in medical education.

Eden University Holds Its First-Ever School of Medicine White Coat Ceremony

On the 6th of September, 2024, Eden University proudly hosted its inaugural White Coat Ceremony for entry-level students across various medical programs. This ceremony marked a significant milestone for the School of Medicine and for the future healthcare professionals who are beginning their journey.

The event was graced by Mr. Jon Kasalika, the Deputy Registrar of the Health Professions Council of Zambia (HPCZ), who highlighted the importance of professional guidelines and conduct throughout the students’ academic and professional lives. Mr. Kasalika encouraged the inductees to hold firm to the standards set by the HPCZ as they embark on this transformative journey.

Eden University CEO, Hon Kelvin Kaunda , also addressed the audience, reaffirming the core values, ethics, and morals that are fundamental to the medical profession. He assured the students that all medical programs at Eden University are fully accredited by the HPCZ, a statement supported by Mr. Kasalika.

The Vice Chancellor, Dr. Alvert N Ng'andu , closed the ceremony with powerful remarks on the symbolic meaning of the white coat, stating that it represents trust, responsibility, and dedication to the healthcare profession. Dr. Alvert N Ng'andu also called for timely approvals of the University's programs by the HPCZ to continue fostering the growth and credibility of Eden University’s medical offerings.

Additionally, the President of the Eden University Medical Students' Association (EUMedSA), Mr. Tonderai Mutya , delivered a heartfelt vote of thanks at the ceremony. He expressed gratitude to the distinguished guests and faculty for their support and inspiration, while motivating his fellow students to rise to the responsibility that comes with donning the white coat.

This landmark event not only celebrates the start of our students' professional journeys but also reflects the continued commitment of Eden University to excellence in healthcare education.
