*URGENT: CAZ Condemns Unprofessional Conduct at Senanga Day Secondary School, Highlights Importance of Mental Health in Schools*
The Counselling Association of Zambia (CAZ) is appalled by the disturbing video circulating on social media, showcasing a pupil at Senanga Day Secondary School in Western Province being subjected to unfair treatment and humiliation by teachers. This unacceptable behavior not only undermines the dignity of the learner but also perpetuates a culture of fear, anxiety, and trauma.
As a nation, we must recognize that mental health is a critical component of our education system. The actions depicted in the video can have long-lasting, devastating consequences, including suicidal ideation, depression, and anxiety disorders. CAZ emphasizes that prevention is better than cure; it's imperative we prioritize mental health support in schools.
CAZ, in partnership with the Ministry of Education, is committed to promoting mental health awareness and providing support services to teachers and learners across Zambia. We urge all educators to join our movement and become members of CAZ, enabling them to access training, resources, and expertise to foster a nurturing environment for all.
We call upon schools, organizations, and individuals to join forces with us in promoting mental health and creating safe, supportive spaces for learners and educators alike. Together, we can break the stigma surrounding mental health and ensure that Zambia's future leaders receive the care and support they deserve.
