In response to demand from the industry, the modern competence Based Modular training System was proposed by a British funded project to the Zambian government, whose purpose was to:
- To ensure that the country has a competent workforce.
- To get abreast with the changing Technology.
- To ensure that vocational qualifications were based on the needs and standards of the industry.
- To reduce une
mployment among young people. In view of this, the Zambian Government made available the Thorn Park Construction training for that purpose. It was officially established in 1993 through the Ministry of Science Technology and Vocational Training under the department of Technical Education and Vocational Training (TEVETA). The building of the infrastructure was funded by the government of the republic of Zambia in joint partnership with the British Government. The courses that were available on offer were only those related to construction, such as:
- Bricklaying and plastering.
- Carpentry and Joinery.
- Domestic Electrical Installations.
- Plumbing and Sheet Metal.
- Painting and Decoration. As noted from the above courses, plumbing and sheet metal and Painting/ decoration are not currently being offered, this is due to limited resources, however, soon these courses will be operational. Our strategic plan is to expand and offer the best quality to meet the demands of the industry.
