CHRISTOPHER KATONGO TO REPRESENT CHIPOLOPOLO AT AFCON
Zambia's 2012 Africa Cup of Nation AFCON-winning captain, Christopher Katongo, has been selected to join the prestigious lineup of African football legends representing the Chipolopolo Boys in the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations.
CAF's star-studded Legends, chosen for their popularity, tournament participation, and social influence, aim to promote the TotalEnergies CAF Africa Cup of Nations Cote d’Ivoire 2023.
In a statement, CAF mentioned that each Participating Member Association (PMA) is represented by one of their illustrious players with a remarkable history in continental football.
The exception is made for hosts Cote d’Ivoire, who will be represented by two football legends, namely former captain Didier Drogba and renowned midfielder Salomon Kalou.
"Christopher Katongo, the revered captain who led Zambia to its first-ever AFCON trophy in 2012, will proudly represent the Chipolopolo team in the Legends lineup. This recognition is not only a testament to Katongo's outstanding contributions to Zambian football but also an acknowledgment of Zambia's historic AFCON triumph."
The Legends will be actively involved in social activations around the tournament, adding a nostalgic touch to the event by connecting with fans, fostering camaraderie, and contributing to the overall celebration of African football excellence.
"As the football community eagerly anticipates the kickoff of the TotalEnergies CAF Africa Cup of Nations Cote d’Ivoire 2023, Christopher Katongo's inclusion in the Legends lineup adds an extra layer of excitement for Zambian supporters, who fondly remember his leadership during the memorable AFCON campaign in 2012."
