Early this month, on the 17th of October, Tender Hearts Parenting Center was invited to speak to pupils at Pine Wood Preparatory School about bullying what it is, how it affects others, and how we can stand up against it.
We shared that bullying can happen in different ways:

1️⃣ Hurting with words – teasing, name calling, or spreading rumors done intentionally and repetitively.

2️⃣ Hurting with actions – pushing, hitting, or taking someone’s things.

3️⃣ Leaving someone out – refusing to let others join in games or activities.

4️⃣ Online bullying – sending mean messages or posting hurtful things online.
We discussed how bullying makes others feel sad, scared, and alone and why it’s important to speak up, be kind, and support one another.

💪 Together, we encouraged pupils to always remember
✨ Be a Buddy, Not a Bully! ✨Let’s make our schools a place where everyone feels safe, respected, and happy.

Be a buddy not a bully is a campaign by SavvyTech, Tender hearts and Lutanda on the Summit.

The campaign challenges everyone to take deliberate effort to be friends and not bullies.

We are running both online ( through online posters and messages) and physical through outreach around schools in Lusaka, Zambia.

This year we are commemorating the anti bullying week ( 14-18th Nov 2022) through the theme 'reach out'.

This theme encourages victims of bullying to break the silence. They should instead seek help by reaching out so that the bullying they are undergoing does not continue.

We encourage young people not to accept bullying but to instead reach out to a friend, a teacher, a parent or any other adult that can help.

You can take part in the campaign through the online sharing of posters and messages ( we will provide the posters) or coming along during outreach.

Be a buddy not a bully campaign

Our call to action:

Bullying affects millions of lives and can leave us feeling hopeless. But it doesn’t have to be this way. If we challenge it, we can change it. And it starts by reaching out.

Whether it’s in school, at home, in the community or online, let’s reach out and show each other the support we need. Reach out to someone you trust if you need to talk. Reach out to someone you know is being bullied. Reach out and consider a new approach.

And it doesn’t stop with young people. From teachers to parents and influencers to politicians, we all have a responsibility to help each other reach out. Together, let’s be the change we want to see. Reflect on our own behaviour, set positive examples and create kinder communities.

It takes courage, but it can change lives. So, this Anti-Bullying Week, let’s come together and reach out to stop bullying.
