HON.MBANGWETA URGES UNIVERSITY OF BAROTSE LAND (UBL) GRADUATES TO CHAMPION DEVELOPMENT THROUGH RESEARCH AND INNOVATION

Western Province Minister Hon. Kapelwa Mbangweta, MP, has urged graduates of the University of Barotseland (UBL) to take a leading role in using research, collaboration and innovation to drive development in the region and the country at large.

Speaking as Guest of Honour during the 9th UBL Graduation Ceremony held at ACAMMS Garden in Mongu, Hon. Mbangweta congratulated the graduates for their academic achievements and encouraged them to translate their knowledge into practical community solutions.

The Minister reminded the graduates that global and national challenges require fresh ideas and bold innovation, emphasising that development does not happen by chance but through deliberate effort.

He applauded UBL for forging partnerships with institutions beyond Western Province, stating that such collaborations strengthen the university’s academic and research capacity.

Hon. Mbangweta commended UBL for integrating entrepreneurship as a mandatory course, saying it aligns perfectly with the government’s intention to support youth enterprise under the enhanced Constituency Development Fund (CDF).

“You are not just job seekers. You are innovators and potential business owners. Zambia needs your ideas, your courage and your commitment.”

Addressing the Chancellor Prof. Kopano Mukelabai and the UBL Board, he reaffirmed the New Dawn Government’s commitment to supporting private universities, especially those serving rural communities.

Hon. Mbangweta encouraged continuing students to remain focused and urged the newly graduated students to embody the values of service, integrity and excellence as they enter the workforce.
