On 14th May 2026, the Smart Centre successfully facilitated the online voting system for the ZUT Student Union Elections, showcasing the Zambia University College of Technology’s continued commitment to innovation and smart digital solutions

The system allowed registered students to securely log into their accounts and cast their votes electronically by simply selecting their preferred candidates

In line with guidance from the ZUT Electoral Commission, voting was conducted from designated computers within ICE-1 to ensure transparency and accountability throughout the process

Once voting closed, the system automatically counted all ballots and generated results for the respective positions, demonstrating the efficiency and reliability of technology-driven processes at ZUT

This successful implementation reflects ZUT’s vision of embracing innovation, digital transformation, and practical technology solutions that enhance both learning and institutional operations

The Zambia University College of Technology (ZUT) recently facilitated an educational industry tour for 44 students from the School of ICT as part of our commitment to bridging academic learning with real-world industry experience.

On 22nd April 2026, our students visited Infratel, where they gained valuable insight into Zambia’s digital infrastructure and innovation initiatives such as the iHub, which promotes collaboration, innovation, and locally driven technological solutions.

The tour continued on 23rd April 2026 with visits to ZAMREN and Digital Safe Limited.

At ZAMREN, students learned about research and education networking and the role it plays in supporting academic collaboration and high-speed connectivity.

At Digital Safe, students were exposed to practical cybersecurity concepts, industry expectations, and the importance of hands-on technical skills in today’s digital landscape.

The tour provided students with valuable exposure to the evolving tech ecosystem and reinforced the importance of innovation, continuous learning, networking, and industry-ready skills.

We extend our sincere appreciation to Infratel, ZAMREN, and Digital Safe for opening their doors to our students and for sharing valuable industry knowledge and experiences. Your support plays an important role in shaping the next generation of technology professionals.

At ZUT, we remain committed to producing graduates who are equipped for the demands of the modern digital world.

ZUT Delegation Visits IIT Madras Zanzibar Campus

On 15th April 2026, a high-level delegation from the Zambia University College of Technology (ZUT) successfully concluded an official visit to the Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Madras Zanzibar Campus in the United Republic of Tanzania.

This visit marks an important step in strengthening international collaboration and academic partnerships between the two institutions.

The visit began with a guided tour of the IIT Madras Zanzibar campus, giving the ZUT delegation valuable insight into its world-class facilities and advanced learning environment.

This was followed by strategic meetings with key leadership, including the Campus Director, Vice President of Academics, and senior faculty members. Discussions focused on building a strong foundation for long-term collaboration in the following areas:

- Student and Faculty Exchange Programmes to promote cross-cultural learning

- Joint Research Initiatives to address regional technological challenges

- Advanced Degree Pathways, including collaborative Master’s and PhD programmes for ZUT academic staff

A key highlight of the visit was a significant agreement on staff capacity building.

IIT Madras Zanzibar has committed to offering full tuition waivers for ZUT academic staff enrolling in PhD programmes at the campus.

With PhD tuition estimated at USD 12,000 per year, this represents an investment of approximately USD 60,000 per candidate over five years.

This initiative will greatly enhance staff development and strengthen ZUT’s research capacity.

Looking Ahead
Zambia University College of Technology expresses sincere appreciation to the leadership of IIT Madras Zanzibar for their warm hospitality and commitment to academic excellence.

This partnership is expected to play a transformative role in advancing staff development and contributing to the growth of the technological landscape in Zambia.
