Harare’s road network is deteriorating under overloaded heavy trucks.
Congestion is adding cost to every urban delivery run.
Zimbabwe’s average trade costs remain 20–25% higher than the SADC median — and urban freight inefficiency is a contributing factor.
This briefing sets out what can be done — starting today — to reduce those costs, protect road infrastructure, and position Harare as a competitive regional logistics hub.
It introduces the Bloomberg Initiative for Cycling Infrastructure (BICI), a global competitive grant programme opening on 3 June 2026, and makes the case that logistics professionals are exactly the people whose expertise Harare’s application needs.
