UNSW Canberra’s mission is to support lifelong learning through innovation and engagement whilst leveraging our location to build meaningful relationships across Defence, industry, government and academia. We are a prestigious Australian university college of the University of New South Wales, with a unique focus on defence and security. Here, ADFA trainee officers combine a degree from UNSW with their military and leadership training. We offer a range of high-quality undergraduate and postgraduate programs as well as professional short courses. These cover a range of disciplines within arts, business, engineering, IT and science. All our courses are designed and taught by top researchers and defence industry specialists who address real-world problems. We provide postgraduate research and coursework programs to the general community available by distance, intensive or on-campus. Applications for these programs may be made by Australian citizens/permanent residents, New Zealand citizens and international full-fee paying students. UNSW Canberra educates future leaders of the Australian Defence Force with a balanced and liberal undergraduate education, to compliment their military training. Undergraduate students are mostly midshipmen of the Royal Australian Navy and officer cadets of the Australian Regular Army or the Royal Australian Air Force. Students studying at UNSW Canberra gain all the advantages of studying with one of Australia’s largest, most well-established and research-intensive tertiary institutions. UNSW Australia is a member of Australia’s Group of Eight (Go8) institutions and a member of Universitas 21.

A day of building, designing and sharing ideas! 🌉🛰️💡

We brought together school-aged girls who have taken part in our Young Women in Engineering (YoWIE) program to help us plan what comes next. They tried out a CubeSat design challenge, built bridges, made LED projects and took part in a mini hackathon to share what they’d like to see in the program.

A big thank you to all the academic and professional staff who helped make the day happen!

More than 100 fourth-year Engineering students showcased their final-year projects at the School of Engineering and Technology Showcase.

From AI and energy storage to aircraft design, advanced manufacturing and naval architecture, the projects highlighted the creativity and hard work of our emerging engineers.

Congratulations to all the students who presented and to those recognised with awards for their outstanding work! 👏

Disaster preparedness must be seen as an ongoing national security challenge rather than responding to isolated events.

A new UNSW Canberra report argues that Australia's current disaster framework remains heavily focused on responding to crises once they occur while underinvesting in preparedness, mitigation and long-term recovery.

Lead author Prof Douglas Guilfoyle said disasters should no longer be viewed as temporary disruptions but as persistent threats capable of triggering cascading failures across interconnected systems, including energy, transport, communications and healthcare.
