As the George and Irina Schaeffer Center for the Study of Genocide, Human Rights and Conflict Prevention marks its 10th anniversary, we’re looking back at a decade of conferences, study trips, and fellowships for AUP students, faculty, and scholars from around the world.

14 classes using the Visual History Archive

Thank you to George and Irina Schaeffer, whose founding gift made the Center possible, to Brian Schiff and Constance Pâris de Bollardière, who have led it from the start, and to the faculty, students, speakers, and supporters who have made this work possible. Here’s to the next ten years.

Some weeks ask a lot of us.

Last Wednesday, students took a break from midterm exams at AUP's annual Wellness Fair. They repotted plants, wrote gratitude postcards, tried breathwork and yoga, and visited with the teams from the Health Office, Counseling Office, and Physical Activity & Self-Care Office.

Slowing down looks different for everyone. It might be something hands-on, a gentle stretch, or a conversation with someone who can help. Whatever it is for you this week, we hope you find a little of it. 🪴💌🧘

That’s a wrap on this year’s Rentrée Soirées. 🇫🇷🥂

From Paris to cities across Europe and North America, AUP alumni and former students came together to reconnect, welcome recent graduates, and meet fellow members of the AUP community.

With 23,000+ alumni in 145 countries, there’s a good chance that wherever your journey takes you, someone from AUP will be nearby.

The AMEX Café has been part of AUP life since 1979. What started as L’American Express Café in the Bosquet building eventually made its way to Combes, where it has continued to be a familiar anchor for student life.

Though the location has evolved, the core purpose remains the same: it’s a place for students to meet, eat, hang out, and take a break between everything else happening in their packed lives.

It's been a year since the AMEX reopened after its renovation, and we've loved seeing students settle into the space and make it their own.

There have been a few updates along the way, including a new gallery wall added this fall. It brings together photographs and memories from the AMEX over the years, giving a little more context to a space that has been at the center of campus life for nearly five decades.

Paris Fashion Week is underway, but at AUP, our conversations about fashion extend far beyond the runway.

Fashion gives us a lot to talk about. Clothes and creativity, of course, but also culture, identity, history, media, business, sustainability, and the ways we communicate with one another.

These ideas are at the heart of AUP’s Fashion Studies and Fashion Communications programs. They’re also the starting point for our Fashion Talks at AUP series, which brings together scholars, designers, journalists, and other voices from the fashion world.

In Paris, fashion is also part of the world around us, not just something we study. During PFW, students might encounter events and shows on their way to campus, while AUP alumni are building careers in the industry and participating in Fashion Week firsthand.
