Have you ever thought about volunteering your time for the University of Exeter as an alum? 🤔

Every year, hundreds of alumni volunteers support the staff, students and fellow Exeter alumni, and one of them could be you.

There are a variety of opportunities available from career mentoring to being an alumni ambassador. Perhaps you fancy flexing your public speaking and sharing your insights with students at a careers talk? Or maybe letting us know what you've been up to since graduating via a careers profile? Plus all of these are open alumni, regardless of location.

Interested? ➡️You can get all the details about these avenues (and more!) on our website: https://brnw.ch/21x36Zw

Got queries? ✋🏻Drop us an email at [email protected] and let us know, we'd love to hear from you.

"Training had been going well, however you never know what is going to happen. Luckily come race day I was feeling good and I was able to come away with the win!"

A University of Exeter student dubbed the ‘Greta Thunberg of Sport’ has been smashing European running records alongside her environmental activism. 👟 At just 19 years old, Innes FitzGerald, a second year Sport and Exercise Science student had already broken two European U20 records.

in our 2026 alumni magazine we caught up with Innes to learn all about a busy year of events.

is here and what better time to shout loudly about how grateful we are for the amazing support 💚 of our incredible alumni volunteers for their generosity with their time, insights and experience.

You help us to enhance the student experience and improve career prospects, bring your industry expertise and insights to the curriculum, support your fellow Exeter alumni, and provide valuable strategic advice and guidance to University staff: thank you! 🙏🏻

In the last year 7,500 alumni volunteered to support Exeter, donating more than 20,000 hours of their time; and every one of them made a huge difference.

We learned so much as we listened to Alex Adams, head arborist at the University, talk about the trees surrounding Reed Hall on Streatham Campus yesterday. 🌳

Alex’s love of trees and knowledge is astounding and his enthusiasm is infectious. The weather was absolutely glorious and the grounds looked really beautiful in the sunshine. Thank you to all of the forty alumni who attended the tour; we hope you enjoyed catching up and exploring the grounds.

Do let us know in the comments if you were there and any of your favourite facts from the day. 💚

Plus look out for another tour in the autumn, which will be advertised on our events webpage: https://brnw.ch/21x2Top

Interested in travelling back in the University of Exeter's history?

A hundred years ago in 1926, the then Australian Prime Minster Stanley Bruce, visited our Streatham Campus to perform the turf cutting ceremony for the Washington Singer building.

A clip held by the British Pathé archive shows this snippet from the days when we were the University College of South West England.

This we're also sharing with you our wonderful 'Protecting Minds' 🧠 article from this year's alumni magazine.

The article covers how the University of Exeter has invested in critical resources and people to answer some of the toughest challenges in dementia.

It features an interview with Professor Anne Corbett of the University of Exeter Faculty of Health & Life Sciences who shares the hopeful message, "Earlier detection is becoming possible, prevention is no longer theoretical, and thousands of people are already contributing to that progress from their own homes.”

One in two of us will be affected by dementia.

Delivering the best possible care for people with dementia, whether they are living in their own home or in a nursing home, is of paramount importance to their quality of life. 💚
