COMPETITIONS: Most weekends! All of our events @ the university are FREE! No membership required - just come along! The format of debating we do is British Parliamentary (BP) debating. If you've done it before, we'd recommend you come along and give it another shot at one of our sessions. But if you've never even heard of it, all the more reason to come to training! Everyone is welcome at Sheffield Debating, and we'll be more than happy to get you involved if it's your first time. Did I mention that it's free?

We will be watching the Truman show for our film social, that will be taking place tomorrow. We hope to see you all there!

Come join us for a special movie night, replacing our regular Thursday session for this week! Help us choose the film we’ll watch by voting in our GC (link in bio if you haven’t yet joined). We got lots of films to choose from, so be sure to make your voice heard!

Last Saturday Sheffield hosted debate teams from across Europe for one of the biggest events of the year, Sheffield Novices!

Congratulations to everyone who made this competition special by participating, we couldn’t have done it without you ❤️ And congratulations to Alex and Medhansh from Sheffield who kept our streak going by breaking to the silver finals!

Meet Soumyajit, our tab for the Sheffield Novices Competition 👀👏👀👀.

The role of the tab is to resolve any technical or administrative issues that could arise during the competition, in order to ensure that everything runs smoothly!

Despite his complaints about wanting to speak more often, there’s a reason Soumyajit keeps judging debate competitions - mainly cause he’s good at it. He’s broken as a judge at the South Atlantic Debate Championship 2025, Saint Andrews Pre-EUDC (pt. 1) 2026 and UCL IV 2026, to name a few.

And if his speaking and judging skills weren’t enough, he’s also a pretty good tabber! He’s back again for Sheffield Novices, after tabbing Sheffield Pro-Am last academic year and he’s had plenty of practice before at Norwich Mini and Norwich IV. So focus on having a fun time, he’s got the tab!
