We know how tempting it can be to spend the entire summer as a couch potato, especially after a busy academic year. However, staying active can help boost your mood, improve your energy levels, and support both your physical and mental wellbeing.

At St Andrews, many of us stay active without even realising it, as most facilities are within walking distance. Returning home can be quite different, and it can be easy to slip out of those habits. Now that the summer holidays have arrived, perhaps think of what type of rest you need to recover from all the academic workload! Feeling tired does not always mean you just need more sleep ๐ŸŒ™ Sometimes your mind is exhausted, sometimes your emotions are overwhelmed, and sometimes you just need time away from constant noise and pressure. Learning what kind of rest you actually need can make such a big difference.

Internships can genuinely change the direction of your career if you approach them properly. A lot of people focus only on getting the internship, but what you do during it matters just as much. Networking, asking questions, taking initiative, learning from feedback, and staying connected afterwards can turn a short experience into long term opportunities. Even if you feel nervous or inexperienced, showing enthusiasm and willingness to learn already makes a strong impression.

Despite their plain olive-brown appearance, chiffchaffs are highly active insect hunters, constantly flitting through foliage in search of small insects and spiders. And unlike many migratory birds, chiffchaffs are known for their early arrival in spring, often being one of the first warblers to return to the UK after wintering in southern Europe or North Africa.
