Sta. Maria, Pangasinan—Don Mariano Marcos Memorial State University–South La Union Campus (DMMMSU-SLUC) secured 2nd Best Film in the Agrarian Reform Beneficiaries (ARB) Category of PelikulAgraryo 2026, a short film competition organized by the Department of Agrarian Reform (DAR), held last October 2, 2026 at Pangasinan State University–Sta. Maria Campus.
Representing DMMMSU-SLUC, the short film titled “BAKASYON” was produced by the Balitang DonMariano Productions from the BA Communication Program, under the technical guidance of Dr. Ernesto C. Collo, Jr.
The film tells the story of Ma. Teresa S. Boado, an outstanding Agrarian Reform Scholar who became a successful agricultural technologist and now serves fellow farmers in Sto. Tomas, La Union.
Among 14 entries from different higher education institutions across Region 1, “BAKASYON” earned nominations for Best Teaser, Best Cinematography, Best Editing, Best Actor for Andrei Rañeses, and Best Director for Angelica Rejj Patiag, while Ysha Mhae Valdez was named Best Actress.
Beyond its competition entries, “BAKASYON” sought to portray the interconnected realities of land ownership, education, youth struggles, and community service through Teresa’s journey.
The recognition marks another achievement for DMMMSU-SLUC’s student media and communication community, showcasing the capacity of young storytellers to use film in amplifying stories of farmers, education, youth, and service. (By Justine Campos)
