Caraga State University (CSU) successfully conducted a three-day Project Management Training from April 6 to April 8, 2026, at the VCDU Prince Hotel. The activity was attended by the Research Center Chiefs and RDIE Unit Heads of CSU, aiming to strengthen their competencies in managing research, development, innovation, and extension (RDIE) initiatives through structured and practical project management approaches.

The training formally opened on April 6 with an inspiring message from the Vice President for Research, Development, Innovation and Extension, Dr. Jeffrey T. Dellosa. This was followed by an engaging energizer activity facilitated by Ms. Warvi Quijano, the Teradyne HR/Talent Acquisition Personnel from Teradyne Philippines Ltd., setting an enthusiastic tone for the sessions ahead.

The first day featured a comprehensive discussion on the Foundations of Project Management for RDIE, led by Engr. Jerry Alfonso, the Project Manager of Teradyne. The session covered essential concepts and terminologies, project definition and its link to operations, identification of key stakeholders, and the basics of Work Breakdown Structure (WBS). These topics were further enriched by Engr. Yeore Clyde Retada, the Production Material Planner Officer Supervisor. The day was also graced by the presence of Caraga State University President, Dr. Rolyn C. Daguil, who delivered a message of support and encouragement to the participants.

On the second day, participants were re-energized through another interactive activity facilitated by the Teradyne team. A recap of the previous sessions was delivered by Dr. Marco Laurence Budlayan, Chief of the Center for Nanoscience and Technology for Research and Entrepreneurship (CeNTRE). This was followed by in-depth discussions on Project Implementation and Management Tools, again led by Engr. Alfonso and Engr. Retada. Topics included an overview of the five process groups, the importance of change control, and project closeout and documentation. The day concluded with an examination covering the discussed topics and a grouping activity in preparation for the final dayโ€™s output presentations.

The third and final day began with a recap delivered by the Extension Services Office Director, Dr. Chime M. Garcia. Participants then presented their group outputs, showcasing their understanding and application of the concepts learned throughout the training. The event culminated in an awarding ceremony recognizing the highest scorers in the examination and the best group presentations.

The training formally concluded with closing remarks from Dr. Nathalie L. Daminar, who commended the participants for their active engagement and emphasized the importance of applying project management principles in advancing CSUโ€™s RDIE initiatives.

In addition, CSU extended its recognition and appreciation to SEIPI VisMin, represented by Ms. Gyle Marie Loreta, for its valuable partnership and support in making the training a success.

Caraga State University Secures Prestigious 2nd Palladium and 6th Platinum Awards

Caraga State University (CSU) has once again demonstrated excellence in intellectual property development, receiving its 6th Platinum Award and 2nd Palladium Award from the Intellectual Property Office of the Philippines (IPOPHL). The awards were announced today during the Innovation and Technology Support Office (ITSO) Presidentsโ€™ Summit held in Iloilo City.

The Platinum Award marks CSUโ€™s continued outstanding performance in intellectual property generation and protection. Notably, CSU achieved its 5th consecutive Platinum Award, which qualified the University for the prestigious Palladium Awardโ€”one of the highest recognitions granted by IPOPHL.

CSU first received the Palladium Award in 2025 in recognition of its five-year accomplishments from 2020 to 2024, having consistently earned the Platinum Award for five consecutive yearsโ€”a primary requirement for the distinction.

These achievements are a testament to the collective efforts of the CSU community. We proudly share these honors with our teams from the Main Campus and Cabadbaran Campus, our ITSO Team led by Mr. Kenneth Ciudad, our technical experts, patent drafters, IP coordinators, and all researchers whose innovations have led to patent applications and other forms of intellectual property.

CSU remains committed to fostering a strong culture of research, innovation, and intellectual property development in pursuit of national and global impact.

In line with its commitment to advancing health-related research and fostering interdisciplinary collaboration under the One Health initiative, the Center for Health Research and Innovations in Medicine and Bio-Engineering conducted a two-day workshop aimed at enhancing competencies in research design, grant writing, and scientific publication. The activity gathered faculty members and collaborators to develop practical skills aligned with regional health priorities and global research standards. The first day focused on strengthening participantsโ€™ ability to design robust research protocols, featuring a comprehensive refresher on quantitative and qualitative approaches delivered by Prof. Veincent Pepito of Ateneo de Manila University. Emphasis was placed on aligning research questions with appropriate methodologies, identifying key variables, and integrating interdisciplinary perspectives.

Participants were grouped according to their respective research topics and presented their capsule proposals for critical review. This process enabled them to refine their study designs, clarify objectives, and enhance methodological rigor, ultimately strengthening their capacity to develop responsive and feasible research protocols. In the evening, members of the One Health Technical Working Group convened for an initial planning session, where priority activities for the first year of implementation were discussed under the guidance of Prof. Pepito. Plans for a dedicated activity focusing on drafting target outputs and developing a structured work plan were also explored to reinforce collaboration and interdisciplinary engagement.

The second day centered on developing competitive grant proposals and transforming research outputs into publishable manuscripts. Sessions highlighted essential components of successful grant applications, including defining measurable impact, aligning proposals with funding priorities, and preparing realistic budgets and timelines. A significant portion of the workshop was devoted to scientific writing and publication practices, where participants were guided on best practices in manuscript preparation, ethical considerations, and adherence to journal standards. Overall, the workshop successfully strengthened competencies in research design, proposal development, and scientific writing, providing a valuable platform for mentorship, collaboration, and capacity-building in support of advancing impactful health research.
