MEET THE EXPERTS BEHIND "MENTAL HEALTH AWARENESS DECODED"

Mensa Philippines' and Mensa Indonesia's "BB x M-CHAT: Mental Health Awareness Decoded," is all set for our Mensa members on October 24, 2026.

Lined up as our speakers are two clinical experts who will combine their strong professional backgrounds with deep personal insights to explore adult giftedness and neurodiversity.

Mr. Jun Angelo β€œAJ” Sunglao is a licensed psychologist, mental health advocate, and consultant who lives with ADHD himself. He holds master's degrees from Ateneo de Manila University and King’s College London. In his psychotherapy practice, he helps individuals handle depression, anxiety, trauma, and ADHD.

AJ will explain how high intelligence can hide attention struggles. He will share practical tools to manage energy cycles and overcome task paralysis before it leads to burnout.

Ms. Siti Dwita Anjani serves as Mensa Indonesia’s National Supervisory Psychologist and co-pioneered the Mensa Youth program. She earned her psychology degree from Universitas Indonesia and also works as a Learning Specialist at Siap Kuliah by Sekolah.mu.

Siti's career focuses on supporting gifted children, parents, and adults. In her session, she will explore the emotional life of gifted adults. She will be discussing why smart individuals often face imposter syndrome or restlessness, and how they can set healthy limits at work.

Together, AJ and Siti will offer a well-rounded guide to understanding neurodiversity in daily life. Attendees will walk away with practical, clinical tools to manage focus, overcome imposter syndrome, and set healthy boundaries to prevent burnout.

Mensa members can find registration links in their official emails and community group messages ahead of the event this Saturday.

Mensa PH and Mensa Indonesia Come Together to Explore Mental Health, Giftedness, and ADHD

Many people think high intelligence makes life easy. But for many smart adults, high capability often comes with quiet struggles like perfectionism, feeling overwhelmed, and deep exhaustion.

To help address these challenges, Mensa Philippines and Mensa Indonesia are coming together on Saturday, October 24, 2026, for a virtual talk titled "BB x M-CHAT: Mental Health Awareness Decoded." This joint event looks at how adult giftedness and ADHD affect work, relationships, and daily life.

The event will start with a talk on giftedness and work challenges by Ms. Siti Dwita Anjani. She will explain how high-ability adults handle strong emotions and busy environments. She will also tackle why many smart adults feel like impostors or feel constantly restless, and how they can set healthy limits at work.

Next, Mr. Jun Angelo Sunglao will talk about being "twice-exceptional" -- having high intelligence alongside challenges like ADHD. He will explain how high intellect can hide daily focus struggles until workload demands lead to sudden burnout. He will also explore simple ways to handle focus cycles and overcome task paralysis by working with your natural energy.

This online event for Mensa members takes place on October 24, 2026. Members are invited to check their emails and group messages to see the registration details

This shared effort highlights the need to understand different minds so we can create kinder, more supportive spaces at work and in everyday life.

YUM YUM: Young Mensans Serve Up a Mouthwatering Taste of History

We recently took a deep dive into Filipino culinary heritage with The Histolinarya Collective by Roberto Villarcabral.

Rolling up their little sleeves to help prepare and cook the feast, our Mensa Kids & Teens brought history off the page and straight onto the plate!

The feast was a sight for hungry eyes! Served were crispy, golden fried lumpia stacked high alongside warm slices of buttery garlic toast, and a kid-favorite towering platter of signature sweet-style Filipino spaghetti smothered in hotdog slices and a generous blanket of melted cheese.

For dessert, the kids whipped up silky-smooth, caramel-drenched Leche Flan, rich Ube Halaya, and a colorful DIY Halu-Halo bar packed with sweet jackfruit, macapuno, jellies, and shaved ice.

Learning about our roots has never tasted so sweet, or looked so delicious!

Mensa Kids & Teens Explore Filipino History Through Food

What happens when curious young minds meet the rich, flavorful history of Filipino cuisine? You get a day filled with interactive learning, dough-dusted hands, and endless questions.

On October 3, the Mensa Kids & Teens Philippines community, along with their families and guests, gathered for a uniquely immersive experience during the Histolinarya Masterclass: Filipino Food & Heritage Cooking Class.

Led by The Histolinarya Collective by Roberto Villarcabral, the masterclass invited young participants to step away from traditional textbooks and dive straight into history using all five senses.

Throughout the session, food served as a vibrant storytelling medium. Rather than viewing dishes merely as meals on a plate, the children discovered how culinary traditions reflect the Philippines' evolving history, trade, and cultural identity.

The kids actively engaged in every step of the journey, tracing the fascinating historical evolution of halu-halo, uncovering the unique origins and cultural twist behind distinctly Filipino sweet-style spaghetti, and rolling up their sleeves to learn the traditional art of kneading classic, old-fashioned pan de sal.

In true Mensa Kids & Teens style, the venue was buzzing with high energy, spontaneous questions, and joyful laughter. Reflecting on his first time teaching a youth culinary class, Rob shared an insightful perspective that children naturally have fewer years of life experience than adults, yet they deserve equal empathy, respect, and room to grow into the people they are becoming.

This philosophy sits at the heart of Mensa Philippines' youth initiatives. Our goal extends far beyond filling high-ability minds with academic facts, aiming instead to cultivate safe, inspiring environments where gifted children can explore their interests freely, build lasting friendships, and simply relish the joy of childhood.

An event of this scale thrives entirely on the dedication of a passionate community. We extend our deepest gratitude to our host Roberto Villarcabral and the Histolinarya Collective for generously sharing their culinary talent, historic insights, patience, and enthusiasm with our young learners.

Special thanks go to Mommy Yui Ong for spearheading and meticulously co-planning this initiative from day one. And to all the parents, kids, siblings, and friends who showed up with warmth and enthusiasm, it is your active participation that shapes our vibrant community.

As Mensa Philippines continues to curate experiential learning opportunities for our members of all ages and families, we look forward to many more gatherings where our youth can connect with their roots, challenge their minds, and create unforgettable memories together.

Stay tuned for our next adventure beyond the classroom!

This World Mental Health Day, let’s remember that our mental health deserves the same care and attention as our physical health.

Take a pause. Check in with yourself and others. And remember, asking for help is a sign of strength, not weakness.

Mensa turns 80 today! That's a lot of years of brilliant ideas and smart conversations.

πŸŽ‰ Mensa turns 80 today! πŸŽ‰

80 years of inspiration. 😍 A meeting place for brilliant minds.

On 1 October 1946, Dr Lance Ware and Roland Berrill founded Mensa. The name comes from the Latin word mensa, meaning β€œtable” – reflecting the idea of a round table where age, background, education, religion or political views do not matter.

Today, there is still just one requirement for membership: achieving a score on an approved intelligence test that places you in the top 2% of the population.

80 years of conversations, shared experiences and inspiring connections.
