ARAL Summer Reading Program Kickoff Beats the Summer Heat
SUA, Matnog— Sua National High School formally opened its ARAL Summer Reading Program on Wednesday, May 6, in an effort to strengthen literacy and reading comprehension skills among learners during the summer break.
The kick-off program gathered students, teachers, and volunteer tutors, in a simple opening program held at the school campus. The initiative is part of the Department of Education’s Academic Recovery and Accessible Learning (ARAL) Program, which aims to provide additional learning opportunities for students needing academic support, particularly in reading.
School officials emphasized the importance of addressing the learning gap particularly in literacy. They noted that the program seeks to address the concerns on learners’ literacy development while creating a more engaging and learner-friendly environment through guided reading activities, storytelling sessions, and comprehension exercises.
Salvador Gacis, Jr., school head, expressed his strong support to the program as he noted that there really is a need to address the concerns on literacy challenges in their school.
Volunteer tutors and teachers will facilitate daily reading sessions designed to improve students’ fluency, vocabulary, and comprehension skills. Learners are also expected to participate in interactive activities that encourage confidence and interest in reading.
The ARAL Summer Reading Program is expected to run throughout the summer (May 6-June 2), through the collaborative efforts of the school administration, teachers, parents, and volunteer tutors, in its aim to cultivate a stronger culture of reading and learning among its students.
