โ€œSometimes, being a hero does not mean doing something extraordinary. It can simply mean showing up, lending a hand, and choosing to do something good for others and for the world we share.โ€

On August 31, 2026, the WVSU Pototan Campus Student Council (CSC) joined the half-day Tree-Planting Activity at Barangay Bangac, Mina, Iloilo, together with the WVSU-PAF ROTC Unit and Barangay Bangac officials.

Spearheaded by the WVSU-PAF ROTC Unit in coordination with the barangay officials, the activity brought students and community members together through a simple yet meaningful act of serviceโ€”planting trees, caring for the environment, and strengthening community spirit.

The initiative supports the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), particularly SDG 13: Climate Action and SDG 15: Life on Land, which promote climate action, environmental protection, and the sustainable use and restoration of terrestrial ecosystems.

As we honor National Heroes Day, may we remember that heroism can also be found in everyday acts of service. In every hand that plants, every person who helps, and every seedling given a chance to grow, there is a hero who chooses to care.

๐—ก๐—˜๐—ช๐—ฆ | WVSU-Pototan Campus Unveils โ€˜IWAGANโ€™ as New Welcoming Tradition

West Visayas State University โ€“ Pototan Campus is bringing in a fresh tradition for its students with the introduction of WVSU-PC IWAGAN, a redesigned welcoming celebration replacing the old Welcome Fest.

Set to launch on Monday, September 28, 2026, this new event is designed to welcome incoming students while carefully following updated school rules. The shift comes after the administration issued new guidelines focused on prioritizing classrooms and keeping academic learning continuous.

The change is much more than just a new title. The entire event has been rethought from the ground up to fit the administration's rules on how long campus activities can run and how they should be carried out. To keep learning uninterrupted, WVSU-PC IWAGAN will run strictly as a half-day afternoon program.

The celebration was conceptualized and founded by Campus Student Council Councilor John Jorazz E. Palabrica, who served as Chairperson for the 2025โ€“2026 academic year. The name and vibe of the event draw inspiration from Pototanโ€™s famous Iwag Festival, combined with the energetic spirit of the local campus community. The main goal is to help every student feel a true sense of belonging, personal identity, and connection to their peers.

Councilor Palabrica proposed the new event title and program lineup after careful planning. His formal proposal went through standard reviews and received approval from the campus offices, along with full support from Campus Administrator Dr. Raymund B. Gemora.

Organizers share that IWAGAN stands as a symbol of resilience. Even with the challenge of adapting to stricter event guidelines, the campus community continues to find meaningful ways to celebrate unity, identity, and the collective light that makes their school shine.
