“Louise Jastin I. Beron is a graduate of Industrial Design at the College of Fine Arts in UP Diliman. His thesis explored how spent coffee grounds can be reused and reintroduced into the same industry that produced them. With Batangas hosting a rich industry in artisanal production, it made perfect sense for Beron to use his research to pay homage to his hometown.”

After enjoying a steaming cup of coffee, people usually discard the spent grounds. But for a researcher from UP College of Fine Arts , this biomaterial became the start of something new.

𝗟𝗮𝘁𝗮𝗸, developed by Louise Jastin I. Beron, is a reusable coffee filter made from spent coffee grounds mixed with clay. Featuring carvings inspired by Taal’s kalyado pattern, Latak reflects Beron’s cultural identity and passion for sustainability, combined into one piece.☕
