San Carlos College is pleased to announce that there will be no classes and work tomorrow, April 17th, in celebration of Founders Day โ the birthday of the man who started it all, Fortunato C. De Veyra!
Fortunato C. de Veyra was a retired school superintendent and education entrepreneur who founded San Carlos College in San Carlos City, Pangasinan in 1946 โ formally known then as PIEAS (Pangasinan Institute of Education, Arts and Science). His vision was simple but powerful: to provide affordable yet quality education that would equip graduates to make a difference as teachers. When the school opened its doors in November 1946, the Elementary Teachers Course was its first curricular offering.
In 1958, he was recalled to active government service, upon which his son-in-law Dr. Romualdo A. Concepcion stepped in to carry the torch. The baton has since been passed with care โ from Dr. Concepcion to Atty. Arturo B. De Veyra, then to Ms. Elsa Ma. V. Unson and is currently held by Mr. Edward Vincent D. Unson.
The school recently marked its 80th Foundation Anniversary with a week-long string of activities โ a proud testament to what one superintendent's dream has grown into over eight decades.
