Founded on July 7, 1965, SFSC has evolved into a mid-sized college, annually serving more than 20,000 residents of DeSoto, Hardee, and Highlands counties. The recent Jacarlene Foundation donation allows the South Florida State College Foundation, Inc. to provide scholarships for trades program students during the 2026–2027 academic year. These funds are intended to support trades students who demonstrate financial need and may not be eligible for Pell Grant funding.

Today, SFSC’s Latin Student Organization hosted a Día de los Mu***os event to celebrate Hispanic Heritage Month. Attendees enjoyed a free lunch, crafts, dessert, and Zumba.

It was a very lively event, even with all of the sugar skulls. Thanks for joining us! 💀

Students from the Art History 1 and Art Appreciation classes at SFSC took a field trip recently to Highlands Hammock State Park.

This visit was part of a research paper that they are writing about Peter Powell Roberts. The students have each selected one of his paintings to analyze and write about.

Highlands Hammock State Park was the artist's greatest source of inspiration in his many works featuring nature. Mr. Roberts' works can be seen all over SFSC's Highlands Campus, including the stairwells of the Welcome Center and in the library. The Museum of Florida Art and Culture (MOFAC) also has an extensive collection of his life's work.

These photos are from that day along with Roberts' painting "A Little Bit of Charlie" that can be seen at the Peter Powell Roberts Museum of Art and Culture.
The museum is on the second floor above the Avon Park Community Center on Main Street in Avon Park, Fla.

At today's District Board of Trustees meeting, Dr. Lindsay Byron, interim director of the University of Florida's Institute of Higher Education, spoke about the newest partnership between SFSC and UF for the Title III Strengthening Institutions Program (SIP) grant.

Also, called Florida Learning, Innovation, and Growth for a High-skilled Talent (FLIGHT), this grant allows SFSC to strengthen its career and technical education (CTE) programs, better support workforce development, develop services to support student success, and expand the transfer pathway from SFSC to UF.

Yesterday, the Lady Panther Cross Country team ran in The FCSAA Regionals in Tallahassee. 🐾

The Lady Panthers finished sixth out of the 13 participating teams, and Melina Cardona finished 10th overall in the region.
