On Tuesday, September 1, we opened the doors to LUAG’s fall exhibition, “This Land: Reimagining the United States of America on its 250th Anniversary”.

We were honored to welcome over 500 of you in — to connect with each other, engage with art, and strum a Martin Guitar or two. Here are just a few snapshots of a very special evening.

On view through December 4, 2026, “This Land” invites us to explore multiple possibilities of being, living, and understanding in America. Come visit and experience the exhibition for yourself. It’s always free and all are welcome.

“This Land” draws from LUAG’s collection and beyond, including a selection of historic images and artifacts from the C. F. Martin & Co. Archives.

A listening room and an interactive library space provide opportunities for visitors to engage and reflect, and a vibrant calendar of public programming – from hands-on workshops to artist talks and community conversations – invites all to explore themes of identity, belonging, and our shared histories.

Framing Place: Photography, Perspective, and Storytelling with Cristiano Burmester

Every photograph reflects choices about what to include, what to leave out, where to stand, and whose story to tell.

As part of LUAG’s Art in Dialogue conversation series, photographer and scholar Cristiano Burmester will draw from his work to explore photography as both a form of visual storytelling and a democratic medium.

Connecting experiences in Brazil with contemporary issues in the United States, the conversation will invite attendees to look beyond the frame and consider how photography can help us document where we are, understand one another, and imagine the future we want to share.

ABOUT THE ARTIST
Cristiano Burmester is the founder of Mester Communication, located in São Paulo, Brazil. An editorial and audiovisual production company. Has worked for Brazilian and international clients such as: UNDP, PriceWaterhouseCoopers, Maersk, SENAC Publishing, Globo, Louis Dreyfus Commodities, National Geographic, Reebok, SmartFit and Sony.

He is the author of the books: Himalaya, Brazilian Sea: fauna and flora and Urban Art, People of the Sea, among other titles. Produced and directed documentaries on themes like: marine sustainability, coastal communities, artisanal fishing, education challenges, smart cities. Has exhibited his work in different institutions, museums and galleries in Brazil and abroad.

A LUAG Art in Dialogue event

On Tuesday, September 8, join award-winning choreographer, filmmaker, and cultural anthropologist Jeffrey Page at LUAG for an evening exploring the power of art to carry memory, identity, and cultural resilience.

The program will begin with a screening of Page’s documentary “Blues People” – a powerful short film that links the roots of African-American blues to the vibrant cultural expressions of Mali and illuminates how music and dance have long served as languages of resistance, healing, and connection across the African diaspora.

Following the film, Page will reflect on how artists and communities are responding creatively to the challenges of our time, exploring how movement, storytelling, and cultural traditions preserve history, inspire dialogue, and invite us to consider the question: How do artists help us reimagine the world we want to create?

In partnership with SouthSide Arts District and Bethlehem Area School District, LUAG is thrilled to present “This Land: Our Community / Esta Tierra: Nuestra Comunidad” on the South Bethlehem Greenway💚

Connecting to our fall 2026 exhibition “This Land: Reimagining the United States of America on its 250th Anniversary” (opening September 1 in our Main Gallery) these outdoor billboards feature original works from PK-12 students in the Bethlehem Area School District — artworks that express wishes for community, people, planet, and the future of America.

The outdoor exhibition is on view through Summer 2027. No matter the season, you’re invited to enjoy the nature, art, and connection of the South Bethlehem Greenway.
