The theme for this year's Society of the Exploration of Psychotherapy Integration (SEPI) Annual Conference is "Connection Within, Between and Beyond" and recognizes the significant role that connection plays in the process of psychotherapy and other therapeutic modalities. Ahead of the conference on June 11-13, SEPI President and Program Chair Kristin Osborn talks with Pacifica's Interim Provost, Loralee M. Scott, about a Pacifica faculty-led panel, the work and partnership of both organizations, and her hopes for the future of psychotherapy.

Kristin Osborn is an author, consultant, and internationally recognized educator with an appointment at Harvard Medical School where she teaches Short Term Dynamic Psychotherapy to residents in the Department of Psychiatry.

Pacifica faculty will be presenting a panel titled “Depth Psychological Approaches to Moral Injury in Veterans and First Responders” at the SEPI Conference. This multi-panel discussion brings together depth psychological perspectives on moral injury in veterans and first responders, expanding prevailing frameworks beyond trauma and other-harm to include often-unrecognized psychological self-injuries. Featured Pacifica presenters include Elisabeth Gonella, LMFT, Dylan Francisco, PhD, and Juliet Rohde-Brown, PhD.

Founded in 1976, Pacifica Graduate Institute emerged from a bold and uncommon vision: to create a place of higher learning devoted to the study of psyche, soul, myth, and meaning, and to do so in service of both individual transformation and the wider world.

In 2026, Pacifica stands at a moment of reflection and renewal as it marks its 50th Anniversary. In a world facing profound cultural, ecological, and psychological challenges, Pacifica’s founding vision feels not only relevant, but essential. For fifty years, Pacifica has tended soul in and of the world. The story continues forward, grounded in depth, shaped by community, and guided by a lasting commitment to education in service of psyche and society.

To mark the occasion, Pacifica is launching a special webpage dedicated to our history and special anniversary events.

The Power in Your Hands: An Interview with Shannon Algeo

Shannon Algeo MA, AMFT, APCC, is a psychotherapist, public speaker, meditation teacher, author of Trust Your Truth, and an alum of Pacifica’s Masters in Counseling Psychology program. Shannon’s recent book, The Power in Your Hands: Liberate Yourself From Attachment to Technology is “both an urgent wake-up call and a compassionate roadmap” about society’s attachment to technology and how to reclaim one’s life.

“I learned that if I want to become a steward of my attention, I must see—with fierce sobriety and gentle compassion—the ways in which devices seek to exploit my attentional agency and the ways in which my own daily habits are complicit in such exploitation.”
