Touro Law Center

Touro Law Center Welcome to the official page for Touro University Jacob D. Fuchsberg Law Center, located in

Touro Law Center was established in 1980 as part of Touro College, a private, not-for-profit, coeducational institution based in New York City. Founded under Jewish auspices by its first President, the late Dr. Bernard Lander, the College was chartered by the Board of Regents of the University of the State of New York in 1970. The College derives its name from Isaac Touro and his sons, Judah and A

braham. Judah and Abraham were generous 19th Century philanthropists whose commitment to academic excellence, social justice and community service represent the ideals to which the College is dedicated. In April 1986, the Law Center was officially named the Touro College Jacob D. Fuchsberg Law Center in honor of Judge Jacob Fuchsberg, a distinguished litigator who served as an associate justice of the New York State Court of Appeals – the state’s highest court – from 1975 to 1983. Touro Law Center moved to its Central Islip location in 2007, adjacent to and working with a federal courthouse and a state courthouse. It is the first law campus of its kind in the country, and our curriculum not only addresses all aspects of law in today’s changing world, but capitalizes on the proximity of the courthouses. In addition, our 185,000-square-foot building is a state-of-the-art facility with enhanced technology, classrooms, study spaces and more.

Touro Law’s Antisemitism Law Clinic had its first field trip of the semester this week—on Wednesday, the state of Israel launched a new Global Task Force to Combat Antisemitism at the United Nations as part of the General Assembly opening. Professor Mark Goldfeder was invited to address diplomats from dozens of countries on the dangers of antisemitism to global society and the best ways to fight it from within the institution. Clinic students were present for the address and had a chance to meet many of the dignitaries before and after the speech.

"Providing our students with front-row access to high-level international advocacy is an extraordinary learning opportunity," said Professor Goldfeder. "Seeing diplomatic strategy and legal principles applied on a global stage gives our clinic students invaluable real-world experience as they prepare to become the next generation of leaders in fighting antisemitism."

Clinic students met with Israeli Ambassador Danny Danon and American Ambassador Jeff Bartos. Left to right: Samuel Yakubov, Ambassador Jeff Bartos (United States), Ambassador Danny Danon (Israel), Professor Mark Goldfeder, Adam Yusupov, and Clara Chaya Epstein.

Touro Law Center’s Orientation Program brought together both our incoming and returning students for a truly impactful learning experience through an immersive Poverty Simulation. The Simulation provided students with the opportunity to better understand the realities faced by individuals and families experiencing poverty while reinforcing the importance of empathy, access to justice, and community collaboration.

A sincere thank you to Lisa M. Zayas, Esq., Director, Access to Justice Division, Office for Justice Initiatives, NYS Unified Court System, for facilitating this experience and helping our students gain valuable insights that will remain with them throughout their legal education and future legal careers.

Special thanks to the Honorable Andrew A. Crecca, District Administrative Judge, 10th Judicial District, for his continued support and commitment to bringing this meaningful experience to our students. Thank you to Joseph R. Benedetto, Justice Coordinator, Principal Court Analyst, District Administrative Judge’s Office, 10th Judicial District, and Julia B.
