UChicago Prof. Kenneth Warren, a distinguished scholar of American and African American literature, will deliver this year’s Aims of Education address on Sept. 24 to the incoming Class of 2030. UChicago has announced an ambitious $300 million initiative to expand college and career opportunities for students from rural and small-town communities across the U.S.

A $100 million gift from Byron and Tina Trott launched the Trott Center for Excellence in Rural America, which will expand financial aid and provide students with career support and advising through and after graduation.

The gift reinforces UChicago’s commitment to access through its prestigious Odyssey Scholarship Program and distinctive educational environment. President Paul Alivisatos said: “The University of Chicago has long believed that our academic excellence goes hand in hand with expanding opportunity to intellectually rigorous and curious students from every community.”

Madhav Rajan has been reappointed for a third term as the Steven S. Wymer Dean of University of Chicago Booth School of Business.

The George Pratt Shultz Distinguished Service Professor of Accounting, Rajan has helped deepen the school’s impact since joining Chicago Booth in 2017: growing its faculty, launching two new master's degree programs and attracting transformative philanthropic support.

On Sunday, NASA - National Aeronautics and Space Administration launched its new flagship space telescope—named for Nancy Grace Roman, PhD'49, who got her start as a UChicago astronomer studying the Milky Way. Roman went on to become NASA's first chief of astronomy, later earning the nickname "Mother of Hubble" for leading the push to fund that landmark observatory. Her own namesake will now map dark energy and hunt for distant planets, surveying the sky with Hubble's sharpness across a far wider view.
