NSCC Funeral Service Program

NSCC Funeral Service Program The NSCC Funeral Service degree program is designed to prepare the graduate for entry-level position

Launched in 2019, the Funeral Service program at NSCC, located on the Danvers campus, offers an affordable and accessible option to earn a Funeral Service Associate Degree. This two-year degree, with 24 courses and 72 credits, is offered in a one day a week format. The degree program combines classroom, lab and clinical training both in its state of the art on campus facilities and at off-site cli

nical sites. Classes take place on Tuesdays each semester, making it easier for students to maintain employment while earning their degree. The classes are offered in a hybrid format with some classwork completed online and some face-to-face. Classes run for seven weeks, rather than the typical 15 weeks, which allows students to concentrate on three classes at the same time. The FNS program was initiated with the robust support of local funeral providers. The program continues to maintain strong ties and collaboration with funeral homes within the Commonwealth and greater New England. CAUTION: Students applying for admission to NSCC Funeral Services Associate in Applied Science degree program should contact their respective state licensing agency regarding that state agency’s approval of this particular program of instruction.

Its the most wonderful time of the year- award season!

Tonight,13 outstanding members of our program were inducted into Pi Sigma Eta, the National Mortician's Honor Society, in recognition of their academic achievement, professionalism, and dedication to the funeral service profession.

It was an honor to recognize the hard work and commitment these students have shown throughout their journey. We are so immensely proud!

What is better than one dog? πŸ• Two, of course! πŸ• Therapy dogs, Abbie from Murphy Funeral Home in Salem, MA and Winnie from Barile Family Funeral Home in Stoneham, MA visited us on campus today to help us de-stress before finals next week. They both deserve a raise! Also thank you to students, Sam Caswell and F.J. Murphy for arranging to share your furry work friends with us all.

A little motivation to our soon-to-be graduates who are currently burning the midnight oil. This will be you sooner than you think!

Today, one of our 2025 graduates, Shannon Murphy (pictured with her mentor, Joel Solimine and also with members of the Board), was officially sworn in as a Massachusetts Licensed Funeral Director. We love watching all of our grads achieve these monumental milestones. Congratulations Shannon!

If so, please consider nominating them for The 2026 Massachusetts Funeral Directors Association Presidents' Award. This prestigious award is given to one graduate from each institution. Nominations can be submitted from managers, coworkers, classmates and self nominations are accepted.

It may not seem like it with a chill still in the air, but graduation season is quickly approaching. There is still a lot of work to be done this term, but we want everyone who wants to be a part of this celebratory day to mark their calendars!

One of the wonderful things about in person learning are moments like these- Students in the Funeral Directing I class spent some time yesterday demonstrating and practicing with transfers. Having students work together and learn from each other in person is a huge part of our program's mission. Its hard to know how to explain the importance of that magic "click," unless you find out for yourself... IYKYK.

Today was (finally) our first full day of in person classes and the first FERNS' social of the term. I have to say, these students absolutely know how to rock a theme! The groundhog may have said 6 more weeks of winter, but we disagree! According to the Funeral Service groundhog the Spring term is now in full swing. We are super excited for a busy but great term ahead.
